I grew up in Poland, and my grandfather used to say: “Consume only for your needs, don't waste food and respect nature.”
Sadly, many of us are like locusts; we consume, extract, and consume more until we destroy ecosystems.

Traditional Japanese sushi did not include raw salmon. Salmon sushi became popular only after Norway’s seafood industry launched “Project Japan” in the mid-1980s. In 1985, Norwegian representatives went to Tokyo to persuade Japan to use farmed Norwegian Atlantic salmon for sushi. Before that, salmon was not a traditional sushi topping in Japan.

Also, sushi was historically not an everyday casual food in the way it is often consumed globally today. For many Japanese people, especially in the past, sushi was more of a special-occasion food, tied to craftsmanship, seasonality, and respect for ingredients.

I understand that food culture evolves. But when Japanese food traditions are commercialized and reshaped mainly by non-Japanese businesses for maximum profit, it makes me sad as a Japanese person. I am proud of traditional Japanese sushi, which is completely different from what is often served in fast-service sushi restaurants abroad.

If food industry have best practice producing food in a clean and safe environment, they shouldn't be afraid to be filmed. Goes to show how obscure they are in reality.

I just left a sushi spot in Austin, Texas where I was working as an Assistant manager. many people were getting sick, including myself. Because of the unsanitary conditions and food handling in a make shift kitchen next door. Specifically people were getting sick from our Tuna Collar. Flies were everywhere all the time, im never going back.

In Australia the Salmon farming issue is quite old news. The Salmon are secretly dipped in chemicals to remove the lice and there's colouring in their food pellets to give them their pink colour. Otherwise they'd be white fleshed..

There is Sushi almost on every corner in Vancouver British Columbia. We do have a huge issue of fish being mislabeled in stores and in restaurants. So you don't necessarily get the fish that you are paying for

Aloha from Hawai’i 🌺 thank you for this excellent documentary. Even here there is overfishing. Difficult to find our beloved reef fish. Personally, I know all run off from hospitals, ships, companies and communities go into our beautiful oceans and it’s a sin that these dirty waters are not processed to clean before going into the ocean, where we swim and eat food from. It makes no sense, it’s no respect for nature.

This is an eye openning documentary.

I eat cooked salmon a few times a month. I always see the label farm raised Atlantic salmon. So this is probably the condition of the salmon before it's turned into fillets.
