  Not in the mid 90s, CD-R and CD-RW discs started to show up on store shelves in the early 2000s. Around the same time as Napster downloads in the early 2000s and decline of cassette sales in October 2003. We got our first Lite-on LTR burner in late 2002 and it was expensive. That's exactly why people didn't even have CD burners till later on, when prices for CD burners and CD-R discs started dropping.

  With the BDXL there change also the recording technology. So each layer can hold around 33,3 GB instead of 25GB.<br>A 4K-Bluray-Player can read BDXL. There use also BDXL with single-layer (33,3GB) and dual-layer (66,6GB), but only if you buy a movie on a 4K-Bluray.<br><br>The 1st versions of a BDXL burner can only read / write the BDXL with 3 and 4 layers. Newer drives can read also the 1 and 2 layer BDXL&apos;s.

  What is the durability of a 3 or 4 layer disk? Seems like it could be quite fragile with think material for protection and tiny tracks. Medicals seem to have infinite money to burn what most people can&apos;t afford.
