The last time I pulled into a gas station in Indiana, I saw a couple of guys sitting in a van with a computer open right next to the gas station. I had seen some videos about card skimmers at gas stations and when I checked, I discovered there was one on my gas station pump. I pretended not to notice and opened my trunk like I needed something but what I was really doing was calling the police. They got there pretty quick and went to the van that I told them about and then another car came to me to look at the card skimmer. They got arrested. I’m pretty proud of myself.

When I was 23, I was on an almost empty train at about 6pm traveling from one town to the next. A young guy got on & started walking up & down the aisle. He eventually stopped & sat down right in front of me. I got chills. Thank goodness, a couple noticed, came over & asked if I wanted to sit with them. They saw the 'anomally', I think they saved me.

Many years ago, I was a young mother, walking with my 1 year old in a stroller on the beach. Very few people were around. A young man appriached me and the vibe was really off. I just got " that feeling" ( Women reading this know what I mean). I kept walking towards a group of other people in the distance. I told him that was my family, and I waved at them. They politely waved back...lol
!
He quickly said his goodbyes...😊

100%. I’m retired military law enforcement, and one of the first things I learned is that you cannot know what’s abnormal unless you know what’s normal. That’s why tourists and visitors are so often crime victims.

I have several small children and have had a very serious talk with them that if we are ever in a public setting and I tell them "we need to leave now," it is NOT the time for argument or questioning. Stay with me and go. We can talk about it later.

I was born 1949 and over the years could walk anywhere and any time, even abroad. But now in my late 70's I watch everyone, everywhere. Sad isn't it.

I use the technique all the time. A few months back mid day I pulled up to the ATM to get some cash. I noticed a car immediately pulling in behind me ... and very close. I thought "hmm, that guy really pulled up quickly behind me... and he's closer than you'd normally see." Most people in a drive thru ATM line stay a car length away (as opposed to right on your bumper like at a red light). So instead of doing the transaction I just drove away and stopped about 200 feet away in another parking lot. The car that pulled in behind me DID NOT use the ATM... creepy! So I waited about 3 minutes until he was gone then re-approached the ATM... seeing no one around me I then did my transaction. Good chance I just avoided an attempted armed robbery. Stay aware people!

I lived rural and ran certain routes for their beauty and some roads saw little traffic. I was climbing this gradual, long hill that ran along a stream when a motorcycle passed me. He continued up the hill slowly, then he stopped with his bike somewhat perpendicular into the one-lane road. He shut down his bike and just watched me approach.

I slowed my pace a bit while chastising myself for not remembering my firearm. But I still had my fanny pack on with the pack in front.

I deliberately stared at this guy who stood there, straddling his bike watching me, then I deliberately slowly slid my hand into the fanny pack and let it rest there (as though gripping my firearm). I never took my eyes off of him. It was like a showdown at noon in the Wild West. 😄

Indeed, I had no firearm, but he didn’t know that.

He started up his bike, then rode on.

I THANKED GOD for putting that idea in my mind.

I’ve acquired this skill from a life of retail work. No joke.

My Dad taught me all this when I was a kid. Always sit facing the door, scope the place out, know where the exits are, if someone's being a creeper...leave, trust your gut. Women especially have to be ever mindful.
