It's been said Whitney sang it to the world, but Dolly sings it to you. I think that encompasses the differences perfectly.

When my Granddaughter who is 9 heard on the news that Dolly Parton had died she started to cry, My Daughter asked her what was wrong to which my Granddaughter replied thats the nice lady that used to send me books every month. We live in the UK and those books came from the imagination library. Dolly Parton touched lives in so many ways across the world

Dolly Parton earned about $10 million from Whitney Houston’s version of the song. She donated those royalties to housing projects in Nashville specifically to help the black community. Dolly was truly a shining example that when success, fame and fortune find someone they can use those gifts to make the world a better place.

I read somewhere that when Porter ran into major financial trouble, Dolly bought his music catalog at full price and when he was stable financially, she gave the catalog back to him.

Dolly loved Whitney's version. She had a great sense of humor about people thinking Whitney wrote it. She said, " Whitney can have the credit, as long as I get the check." RIP.
