  Major was not unhappy with her current existence, she questioned her own existence. As she was cyberized at an early age, she also did not have a concept of a shell that was natural that she remembers concretely. Given what she has seen in her career, she was not sure if her ghost and memories were real or something constructed from section 9 or else where. It does not mean she is unhappy, she just did not know for certain that her ghost was real or what a real ghost would entail. This is why she was drawn to Project 2501&apos;s proposal to merge. It is not a &quot;better&quot; version nor a version &quot;meant to be&quot;, its accepting that the true origin might not matter and that process of evolving is far more illuminating of one&apos;s ghost than the origin of the ghost itself. This same theme comes up a number of times through out Ghost in the Shell universe, in laughing man, in individual 11, in the first episode of SAC etc. &nbsp;This concept is also deeply ingrained inside zen Buddhism.

  You can really feel the influence of ghost in the shell on cyberpunk 2077. And without it, the matrix would not exist. Great video on a seminal work.

  The phrase &quot;what you are meant to be&quot; indicates an external entity has determined what your purpose is. &nbsp;If you are free to choose what you are becoming, then you aren&apos;t &quot;meant to be&quot; anything. &nbsp;All that exists is what you choose to be.

  This is the singular story that caused me to delve deeper into the meaning of consciousness and humanity. Watched it in 9th grade. Changed my life completely.

  Shirow is a master world builder and his manga were full of authors notes slipped in between comic panels or between pages. &nbsp;A joy to read for all SciFi enthusiasts.

  I love the ship of Theseus it’s one of my favourite philosophical problem. It leads to so many good stories trying to interpret the whole concept.
