In manga, it is sugested that Kusanagi looks like a cheap, serial made model with all the fancy stuff being iternal and softwarewise. All to make her blend in easier and detract goons from 'stealing her' for parts. I thing there's a scene in original anime too where she pases by a woman that looks just like her.

Before Lucy, before Eve, before 2B….
There was Makoto Kusanagi.
May her reign endure.

Oh man, Ghost in the Shell is so timeless. I've always considered Batou to be the most interesting character besides The Major. If you ask him about the soul and the complexities of what makes a human being , he would probably brush it aside, but he DOES confide in The Major in her most vulnerable moments. He's not stupid at all, he's just very careful about what he chooses to put thought and value into.

I would give anything for a new Ghost in the Shell game. Cyberpunk 2077 is great and all, but I want Ghost in the Shell, preferably a new Stand Alone Complex game.

What we need is a Ghost in the Shell game styled after Splinter Cell where you can use the active camo and silenced weapons to be stealthy or go in guns blazing with gadgets and gear. It would lend well to various play styles

So the thing about the Major is that while her body is military grade, she LOOKS like a mass produced "Adult entertainment" model cyborg, both in order to keep her somewhat anonymous and also to make people underestimate her as being a threat. (Also, it's Shirow's kink, but that's not the in-universe reasoning). Basically? Her body IS a RealDoll(tm), at least in outward appearance.
