Sentences that are horrific without the context, #1: "The ghost population must have been repeatedly interbreeding with the ancestors."

It's crazy to look at the extinction of Neanderthals 40k years ago and go "damn, that's really recent," because I decided to binge-watch this entire series.

The idea that Homo Erectus survived until like only 100,000 years ago fucking blows my mind.

"Genetically, Bonobos are basically just a branch of chimpanzees that got cut off south of the Congo river and started scissoring" xD

26:20 an interesting thing about high altitude populations is that while Tibetan populations inherited their genetic mutation from Denisovans, Andean (South American) populations have convergently evolved a similar mutation in the EPAS1 gene. Also while both populations have evolved adaptations such as larger lung capacities when compared to average altitude populations, only Tibetan populations have evolved to have lower hemoglobin levels but also to more efficiently access the oxygen stored in the hemoglobin (as well as adaptations that increase body weight and nutrient production/ absorption). In contrast Andean populations have evolved to have higher hemoglobin levels but also evolved mutations that increase heart muscle development to simply deal with the thicker blood that results from high hemoglobin levels. Though due to the Andean populations being roughly half the age of the Tibetan population, their adaptations are not fully dispersed throughout their population.
