I appreciate her openness to talk about her fundamentalist past. Nobody should be embarrassed to have been wrong. They should only ever be embarrassed about continuing to be wrong when demonstrated to be so. And when confronted with the facts, she was wise enough to change her beliefs to match the evidence. That's one of the single greatest things that a person can do, and in a situation like hers, also one of the hardest. She deserves all of the respect for it.

I LOVE Ella! She's one of my most favorite communicators and I'll watch anything she's in. I could listen to her for years and never get tired of it. She's just so clearly passionate and genuinely cares about who our predecessors were as people. She's a treasure.

I'm just crying listening to her talk about her shift from the religious world to the secular world. I remember that feeling. I remember little bits and pieces that were chipping away at my identity, my reality, my life. I remember questioning everything and how everyone around me could be wrong. I even remember the day that I finally accepted letting go. It was so emotional, but also very freeing.

"I still miss my community" this is the best way to communicate science and specifically evolution from an ordinary human perspective. Thank you so much for the last sentences in this interview, they were so intense, touching and honest. Please come together again and let us to learn about ourselves. Thank you so much!

Holy cow, you both just talked in depth about a living changing reality, and alowing that to destroy a personal belief system, wothout offending those who may hold still to that personal belief. Exxcellent and beautiful.

Listening to Ella made me remember how grateful I am that I didn’t grow up confined to one belief system. Without one I grew up very open and curious about them and don’t see the conflict between having spiritual beliefs and also accepting scientific evidence.

Can we just give it up for the rapport and chemistry between these two? This was an engaging conversation not only for the fascinating subject matter, but also the respect and genuine enjoyment that each person had for the other. Just wonderful.

I've been fascinated with these developments about understanding our lineage since discovering I have 1.4% Neanderthal DNA in 2016. When I participated in the National Genographic testing, I had no idea that the clock could be rolled back that far to reveal who my ancestors were.

Absolutely excellent show. I didn't even realize it had been an hour and was sad that it ended.

The discussion on ghost DNA, other species of humans, genetic diversity inside and outside Africa - fascinating! But Ella's honesty, and her description of living through a vast personal paradigm shift and coming out the other side with the empathy and kindness she displays? That is what I feel immensely privileged to have heard her speak about. Thank you Ella ❤

I will click a video with her involvement immediately almost every time. I always love to hear what she has to say. She has the same gift as Carl Sagan to be able to make complex science fun and digestible for the regular person
