  I was in one of the first units to get the M27. It can&apos;t keep up with a 249&apos;s rate of fire. You&apos;ll melt it.

  I think it was Henry from 9 hole reviews who speculated that dropping the saw was basically an administrative work around to justify adopting a new platform in the M27. What he positited was that the marines needed to adopt a standardised rifle to finally get rid of the M16, but they wanted something more capable than the M4. But bean counters couldn&apos;t authorise adopting a whole new rifle and would force them to adopt the M4 which they see as just as good and cheaper. So they created the IAR concept as a set of requirements the M4 couldn&apos;t meet similar to how the MK12 was specified to have an 18.5 barrel instead of 20&quot; so they couldn&apos;t be forced to make the m16 work as an SPR. If that&apos;s true it&apos;s possible that the doctrinal shift was approved with the expectation of bringing in a new belt fed platform down the line

  USMC GWOT veteran and very firm fan of the M249. I think belt feds are necessary, and phenomenal at the fireteam level.

  I kind of thought the plan was always to reintroduce belt feds eventually, they just wanted to equip everyone with m27s first
