I'm a guy who has lived alone now for about 19 years since my wife passed away. After retiring, I needed a hobby where I could just sit and be comfortable after standing and teaching for lots of years. I attended a crochet class at our local senior center. From the first class I was hooked!!
I give away slmost all of the blankets, scarves, hats, shawls and amigurumi toys that I make. I love making and also staying at home.
Recently, my 50 yr old son was diagnosed with mid-stage Parkinson's disease. Seeing your child, no matter their age, suffer is heartbreaking. I use crocheting and my cardmaking hobby to help me through those rough times. Incidently, my son is a hard worker, and as a husband and a father of 5 children, has to be one of the strongest men I know. He's handling the disease much better than his 81 yr old dad, I confess!
Thanks for letting me unload all this. Crocheting is helping me cope!!

I am a trauma therapist. After a day of hearing gut wrenching things from people who have survived childhood abuse or sexual assault I need to clear my brain. Crochet is my lifeline. I usually crochet for at least an hour after work, sometimes two, to reset and be ready for the next day. It is a hobby and joyful, but it is essential in my life!

My Grandma taught me when I was 9yrs old. I loved sitting with her and crocheting. Fast forward 35yrs and I had the opportunity to sit with her and teach her how to crochet. She had dementia before she passed and saw me crocheting at the luncheon after my mother’s funeral, trying to calm myself, and said she sure would love to know how to do that. I about broke down in tears, she didn’t remember me most days and didn’t remember all those afternoons crocheting and talking together. But I sucked it up and tried to teach her. She would forget mid stitch what she was doing, but I treasure that last afternoon stitching with her. I think of her every time I’m stitching and how lucky I am to have these precious memories of my time with her. I’m expecting my first granddaughter in July and I hope to be able to pass this on❤

My first completed crochet blanket amazed me, the fact that I had made something so beautiful, soft and warm with a stick and a string was mind boggling.

The last thing you said “we crochet because we need it”.

My issue is that I almost never take a picture of anything. I give it to whomever without documenting all the time.

This all explains why we consider YouTube strangers and public crocheters our friends! We really aren’t strangers, we have so much in common!

I struggle with depression and anxiety which caused a series of events that have left me extremely isolated for almost a couple years now. I love being diversely creative but crochet is the one thing I have that I find consistent solace in. In my world where it can be difficult to find the drive to even take a shower or make a meal, I somehow have found it in me to expand my crochet project horizons and styles which have been increasing my skills, teaching me more patience with myself and a desire to fine tune projects. I've noticed I've been saying to myself "I'll figure it out" lately when working on something and starting to worry about how it's going to go. And just telling myself that takes the worry away. I don't know what I would do without my crochet to get me through the days!

Crochet has saved my mind. As a mother: I have battled ivf, faced the loss of a child who passed away and battled multiple illnesses of the surviving twin. I am currently the mother a very disabled miracle boy and a very healthy but very autistic daughter. So, for me, crochet helped me cope with my son’s multiple surgeries and my daughter’s non-verbal but hyperlexia autism. Talk about complicated and long long road. I discovered crochet only about 4 years ago but it has become my therapy, my passion and even a source of income at times. I don’t yet have the time to make it into a fully functional business but the extra income as a single mother of two special children is really a God send sometimes. When anxiety takes over my mind and the stress of providing for my children becomes too much, I can always turn to crochet to get by and to have hope that we will make it. Crochet makes me feel blessed that God has gifted me with a talent and ability to provide for my kids besides the regular job and while doing something that I absolutely love. It is always beautiful to get pictured of the babies wearing the clothes that my hands made so that other parents can enjoy their blessings wrapped in my creations. Making baby clothes is only a portion of my creations but the one that gives me the most joy.
I watch your videos and your channel all the time as your story gives me inspiration and makes me feel a bit less alone in this disability road. Praying for all mothers out there and all children to have health, peace and love. 🙏🥰 thank you for your videos.

I've always been an exrovert, as a hairstylist of 40 years. When I retired from my profession, I wanted to learn new things. In 2018, I decided to learn to crochet. Jayda & Crystal taught me. In April of 2019 my 27 year old son died tragically. I obviously couldn't focus on Anything at all. I tried, but it was so awful, my mind was a mess. Sometime in 2020, I decided to try again. I'm so thankful that I did. Crochet has literally saved my life.I've become a homebody, when I quit working altogether in '23. I wouldn't give up my 12 hours per day with a hook in my hand for anything!
Great video Elise, hugs, Pamela💛💛
