We had a home invasion by a large group of armed men in January 2006. We were tied up and held at gunpoint for about five hours. At that time in South Africa there were stories of torture and savage rapes that took place during home invasions. We were lucky and didn't experience that, but the threat was definitely real. There were some precious items that we did not lose because our place was a bit of a cluttered mess at the time and the invaders did not find them. Ever since then I have been struggling to control clutter and mess. I know it's fear (beside the facts that my husband is both a butterfly and a dropper), but I'm so tired of living in a mess that overstimulates my brain. I'm by nature a cricket, but I've been off the rails so badly and for so long. 🙈 Maybe today I can start dealing with it. 🙏

My husband passed away yesterday. We had no kids, so i am alone now. Yes, I spontaneously started wailing from my gut for an hour. And I had another such episode this morning. But I am finding that already today I have been able to put some of his old clothes in a trash bag. I had to think about why. I realized that it is because when I found out, years ago, that he could draw and paint, I asked him to start doing it again for me. And he did, and I now have a painting of his in every room. So, I can just look at these and he is still with me. I'm a 🐝. So, the paintings are vertical and no clutter.

Cass, you say you’re not a therapist, but you just gave me so many breakthroughs into my psyche. I think every single one of these apply to me. Thank you for all you do ❤

30:54 I’m a mom of 9. Goodwill helped me get scrubs for my first hospital job for $1 per piece using their Sunday sale day-I scraped together $4 in quarters to check out. I wouldn’t have been able to get them/that job without someone donating exactly what I needed 💜

Cas, when I was 4 or 5, my Mom took my blanket away from me and said, "You're too old to have that!" and threw it in the garbage 🗑. We were poor and didn't have stuffed animals or anything for comfort, and it was stripped away.
When you mentioned loss, that's the 1st thing that came to mind and perhaps why I hold onto things. Very eye-opening. I hope this connection can help me move through some things.
As always, you're the best❣️
Stay great!!! 🙂

I'm a grieving, overwhelmed perfectionist raised by parents of the depression era! 🤪😅

Everyone tells me to make to-do lists. For whatever reason, making to-do lists makes me feel trapped and anxious. Like my dysfunctional rebel brain doesn't even like me telling me what to do. So I made a no-pressure list of tasks and projects that need to be done, and I made a list of what I did today. I write the date and things I did, even just simple stuff. Filled pill and supplement organizers, made calendar for the new month, washed the cats' bowls. This has helped soooooo much with the shame of "doing nothing." I've definitely been dealing with burnout, overwhelm and perfectionist mindset. Thank you for another fantastic video Cass!

The insidious thing about social media is not only dopamine hits but constant, subconscious comparing ourselves to everything and feeling inferior. No bueno.

"You can't pour from an empty cup". I felt that when you said it. I say it a lot to my friends who struggle but when YOU said it, I felt it for me.

I have listened to a lot of near-death experiences lately. Your loved ones who have passed on are in bliss and feel completely at home and loved and do not hold resentment or judgement over you. They are not thinking about that set of china or the trinket they got on vacation. They simply want your life to be full of joy and connection and love here on earth because that is what it is about. The small sweet caring moments you share with others here. ❤ It is never about the stuff. ❤️

I was feeling overwhelmed by the amount of really cool stuff my parents had collected over the years while traveling the world. It's good stuff! Just too much to fit in my house. Well, to my delight, a local farmstand was expanding their showroom. At first I just brought a few vases to them for the bouquets they sell. Since then, it has turned into about 30 large moving boxes full of interesting decor for the expansion. Even better is that the manager there passes on anything she can't use to another local lady who can sell them. Total win/win/win situation. The cool stuff is finding new homes and not ending up in a landfill.
