It’s insane that some people blame Mary and her reaction/ blow up, as her being a bad therapist, when she was literally was kidnapped, held at knife point and tied up! 😭

So overall, she’s a pretty good therapist when she’s not being tied up and held at knifepoint.

I love how people click on this kind of analysis video and then have the audacity to get mad about spoilers.

In the moment she has kidnapped she is no longer a therapist, she is a victim. And you can’t hold her to the standards of a therapist, while under duress

I need to take a moment to appreciate the clarification of "this is not a therapuetic setting, you cannot give accurate therapy while you are being tied up and traumatized". It is depressingly hiliarious to me that there were probably people who needed that clarification. Not because they are too "stupid" to understand, but because they strictly want to view the moment through a detached narrative lense instead of giving the therapist character her own agency and existence beyond "accurately representing therapy".

21:41 I Truly LOVE Mary going OFF on him. Some people need less kid gloves and more harsh truth. Clark almost seems to have a breakthrough here if it wasn't for the monster.

I think something that was interesting was that clark truly respected Dr Klein's opinion (he did not respect her, but her opinion) in the sense that even after terrorizing her when she finally snaps at him and tells him what's wrong with him, he stops and asks how to make it stop. Clark literally won't listen to ANYONE else in the movie, but he actually does want her help. I mean clark being a person who always has to be right and ignoring everyone else actually seeking out her help in the first place says something.

That said, it makes me think that pirate clark wouldn't have actually hurt Mary. It made short work of Bobby and is very strong, but even when it was on top of her it didn't start ripping her apart or biting her. Also the way it reaches and looks at her once she's in the hall feels like symbolically it's Clark still being enraged but reaching out for her help, and her pause in that hallway makes me think she noticed that.

Also, to be super clear, Clark is a monster and he's a monster the whole movie (one of the things I love about the movie is that he isn't becoming a monster, he is one and it's revealed over the course of the movie), so when I say respect, I def don't mean he's a respectful person, just that he actually does see value in her opinion, even enough to lure her in and kidnap her to get it.

5:03 One of my friends had this criticism of Mary’s approach. That would really destabilize the client doing this exercise so close to the end of the session.
Also, while unconventional, I’d call the meeting where she cusses Clark out and Pirate Clark eats Clark’s shoulder his “termination session.”

10:35 she's not watching her own video, she's watching an advert for her video. She's watching a backroom-type echo of herself, with very flat affect.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. Likewise, you can lead a person to answers, but you can't force them to believe they are correct.

Sometimes people need to try various approaches before they can safely reach a solution. I like to imagine someone starting on top of the Grand Canyon with the answer they need at the bottom. Sure, there's a quick way to reach the bottom, but most people can't tolerate the most direct method. Even a parachute is too fast for most! Taking a donkey or hiking themselves down a step-at-a-time may take years of therapy, but if that's what it takes, that's what it takes!

22:05 i kinda got the feeling that clark felt a sense of relief, not necessarily in a positive way? when she finally told her completely honestly and up front what she thought was ""wrong with him"" so to say, he seemed resigned and almost more respectful of her when she fully confronted him without holding back, like he needed it, he even backs down somewhat and asks her how to change for the better, but when she says she has no idea that last thread of hope just kinda snaps for him
