Making a video called “If I was Rick Sanchez’s therapist” and dressing up as one of his most notable Exes is diabolical work. I love it. 🤣

I love the therapist episodes from Rick and Morty, she’s such a sobering voice after seasons of absolute wackiness and trauma

One thing to consider about Dr. Wong's behavior is that she uses direct language with Rick as the crisis escalates, but that is what he responds to best. So saying "he's not worth it" motivates him to prove her wrong. Is it manipulative, absolutely, but millions of people and the President's life were at stake.

I like Rick’s relationship with Wong across the show. She’s someone who Rick originally didn’t respect and went to great (and near fatal) lengths to avoid. She in turn is someone who see’s through Rick’s mask and accurately dissects his issues even without knowing his history. Frankly, I’m impressed by her patience with him after the flamethrower chair.

Rick eventually comes to respect her somewhat when she manages to help him figure his own issues, and even listens when she tells him off for disrespecting another client (turning said client into a fly after barging in mid-session). By season 7, Rick willingly and regularly attends sessions without the prompting of family therapy because he finally recognizes the value in it.

I think the reason so many people get upset on the topic of Rick and therapists is that they themselves see Rick as someone thats a complete intellectual and they see themselves in him, but the point of therapy is to be able to get inside the mind and to understand it, something that most intelluctuals aren't able to see for themselves and would consider that to be an attack on their intelliegence. Also Rick went to therapy in the end because he wanted to. he left the syringe in plain view that he was going to use it, and once he was able to get arms and legs he could've just made a new serum, he didn't need to get the original one.

The "I'm better than this job" line is also kinda meta if you want to look at it that way because Dr Wong is voiced by Susan Sarandon

19:05 What I think the cardinal sin was, and the part that you might have missed, is that Dr. Wong didn't just tell Rick that he was wrong, she literally took Unity's side instead of remaining neutral. She even took it a step further, crossing over from standing beside Rick to stand beside Unity. Further more, I think she lied when she did it. We see her eyes flick down and to the side. Now, I think there is a reason for why she did that. I think she knew that she could eventually get Unity to help her and Rick fix the problem with the Earth, but the time was a factor. So she chose this route, because lying and taking her side was a way to convince to help convince her to do it sooner. She also knew where Rick was at in his therapy, and that he could admit that he was wrong, and likely would if it meant getting Unity to help sooner rather than later. As we see, it worked and Unity did in fact agree to help sooner rather than later.

Dan Harmon writes Rick and Morty in a way that you can absolutely do analysis on the characters if you so choose to. You can also zone out and laugh at the crude jokes. He wants the show to work on many levels
