The movie "Tommy" (1975) is a rock opera. It's based on The Who's 1969 rock opera album of the same name and tells the story of a boy who becomes deaf, mute, and blind after witnessing a traumatic event and then later becomes a religious leader and pinball champion.

The film, directed by Ken Russell, is known for its psychedelic and visually stunning style, incorporating elements of rock music, drama, and fantasy. It stars Roger Daltrey as Tommy, along with a supporting cast including Ann-Margret, Elton John, and Eric Clapton. The movie has been praised for its bold and unconventional approach to filmmaking and for its exploration of themes like faith, celebrity, and the human condition.

This is actually taken from Tommy that it was also released as a full motion picture in 1975. The kid, Tommy, becomes the pinball wizard, and later the foreleader of a cult. In the cast there's a few nice cameos: Jack Nicholson, Elton John, Tina Turner and many others. "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia" by The Who are two must-watch movies for any music lover.

He isn’t physically blind deaf and dumb. He had a childhood trauma which made him that way. You gotta see/hear the whole album/movie

The great thing about Pinball Wizard is that it can stand alone as a single while at the same time it was part of a larger story told over the Tommy album.

One of the greatest concept albums ever created by the genius Pete Townsend. Released in 1969 movie version in 1975.

Ohh, man! You hit my vibe! Before Tommy, rock albums were more like a jukebox of 3-minute tunes. Then The Who drops Tommy, a double LP in 1969 about a deaf, dumb, and blind kid who survives trauma, becomes a pinball messiah, and leads a cult that turns on him (as cults do). It was like 8 Mile meets Forrest Gump, if Forrest joined a cult and healed people through his pinball powers. Tommy was billed as the first rock opera. It mixed spiritual angst with amplifier worship, and somehow, it worked. Pinball Wizard was the hit, but the album rewrote all the rules. Thanks for this reaction!

Also, this is when Roger Daltrey went from being a crooner to a belter. His whole voice and style changed with this album.
