Griff's Magic Theatre 20th May 2026

Step right up, dear listener… the velvet curtain twitches, the lights dim, and something slightly peculiar is already tuning up in the corner. This week’s journey through Griff’s Magic Theatre doesn’t so much start as lurch into motion with Hookfoot giving The Rolling Stones’s Gimme Shelter a good shake, just to loosen the dust. From there, we’re off down a winding path where broomsticks are apparently a valid mode of transport (thank you Bulldog Breed), and reality becomes increasingly optional. We drift through the kaleidoscopic corners of Love Sculpture and settle briefly into the technicolour daydream of The Beatles, who, as always, seem to know more than they’re letting on. The Bee Gees pop in with Idea - presumably one of several - before Tinkerbell's Fairydust remind us that laziness can, in fact, be an art form. Things then take a gentle left turn into the wonderfully unhinged with Captain Beefheart, followed by The Pretty Things stretching out into something that feels less like a song and more like a weather system. Arthur Brown arrives like a mystical messenger, while Syd Barrett wanders through, smiling quietly to himself, probably knowing exactly how all this fits together. By the time High Tide and Jimi Hendrix have bent time, space, and possibly your sense of direction, you may find yourself questioning whether you ever really needed solid ground in the first place. We round things out with a bit of groove and grit from Brunning Sunflower Blues Band and the formidable Cold Blood, before The Beatles return to remind us that even bulldogs can be surprisingly musical. And just as you think you’ve found your footing, Bulldog Breed reappear to gently nudge you back into the mist. All perfectly normal. Nothing to worry about.
