  The way they presented what happened with WCW was inaccurate.  They made it appear like after Flair left in 1991, WCW left the NWA and created their own WCW World title.  That's not what occurred.  WCW had already started referring to Flair's title as the WCW World title months before he left. When he departed,  they stripped him of the WCW World title,  but he was still recognized by the NWA,  of which WCW was still a member.  Sometime after he joined the WWF, he was stripped of the NWA title as well. The WCW World title continued to be defended with a new champion and belt while Flair and the NWA were tied up in litigation over the belt that he left with and was being displayed on WWF television. Eventually Flair returned the belt and a tournament was held in Japan to reintroduce the NWA World titie and crown a new champion. The title was defended in WCW and New Japan , both members of the NWA. Flair eventually returned to WCW in 1993 and regained the NWA title. Then WCW had their falling out with the NWA because the other NWA promoters were protesting against WCW switching the title without their authorization and not giving them dates on the champion. That's when WCW finally withdrew a few weeks before the Flair vs. Rick Rude title match at Fall Brawl 93 in September where WCW had booked Rude to win without the approval of the NWA . After a failed attempt to reach some kind of settlement , the NWA took WCW to court to try and stop them from having a title match , but WCW owned the belt and it was decreed that they could have world title matches so long as the NWA name was not attached. Rude won what was simply called the World heavyweight title from Flair and they later announced the title he held was recognized by the WCW International Board of Directors and body of promoters, making it known as the WCW International World title going forward. The International World title was unified with the WCW World title in June 1994 at the Clash of the Champions , and then Shane Douglas would win the tournament hosted by ECW for the dormant NWA World titie two months later and discard the belt.

  Sad that Flair is the lone remaining wrestler who was the travelling NWA World Champion that's still alive.
