Sir, thanks for giving me energy to try again. I was disappointed after having two failure attempts to bend guitar sides. By watching your video, I am ready to resume my try. Thanks very much.

Well done. That was a pretty tough bend for material of that thickness. Thanks for showing the testing. Very helpful. Some people put paper between the metal strip and the timber to prevent discolouration and also prevent gum from the timber getting on the metal strip.

Regarding a couple of recent comments:
Splitting out vs. sawn- I appreciate that splitting the wood would be best, but you still need a pretty straight tree anyway. The Engels Coach Shop guy does a super job using sawn lumber, by the way. In either case, I think the degree of grain runout is what is important. "Run of the mill" lumber often has a lot of runout because they often don't center the pith on the saw carriage. But, if you do center the pith and/or quarter saw, you can get boards with very little runout. I have been around a number of sawmills (maybe up to 80 HP or so) in the last 50 years and I have seen it done all different ways.

Bending my skis 180 degrees versus 30 degrees: I was trying to exactly duplicate skis that a guy asked me to make.

"Get it hotter and Steam it longer": Sounds good to me. From what I have read, the only downside of over steaming is that the wood may wrinkle a bit on the inside of the curve. For most purposes (to me anyway) that's not a show stopper.

You are really supposed to split and not rip saw timber for bending - however, if its steamed well enough you can bend almost anything. Good video - I appreciate sharing your mistakes and processes. Forget an hour an inch - soak it overnight and double the steaming time and you will get the results you want

Hello rats-----: If you are talking about the cant that is standing on edge on the band saw's bed; the sawyer sometimes saws a flat spot that's several inches wide on what would be the bottom of that cant to give it better stability. Thanks for catching that "disconnect". I rewrote that part of the page.

Get more gripper type bar clamps, they will greatly increase your speed, you really don't need those C clamps, and the ones I have won't mar the wood they have plastic cushions on the jaws. quarter sawed wood won't fail if steamed properly, so make sure you are getting plenty of the steam into your box as well.

Now that is one very lucky and happy man....👍👍

I admire your persistsnce. I also understand your lack of space with moving your table around to complete the bend. Thanks for sharing this. I can't imagine having a camera on me when I (frequently) mess up a project! Good luck with your future projects!

Split green wood then cut and shaped is the only way to have certainty

I think you are trying to go to fast when you are bending it to the forum and not letting it dry long enough before removing it off the forum
