She still wants to escape back to the real world while Clark was still really content with the backrooms.

  Cleark stealing the stool felt like two things to me: one, it was a split-second attempt at getting &quot;proof:&quot; a real, tangible object from this strange place... if only to prove to himself that he had seen what he had seen. Second... I think its a joke. He talks to his employees about their foray into the Backrooms as &quot;research,&quot; so he begins with a scientific approach. Scientists collect samples. What did Clark bring back? A stool sample. That&apos;s hilarious.

  my favorite little detail is one of the first scenes- mary is looking back at her childhood home being demolished. If you pay attention to the construction workers, they aren’t actually doing anything… (ie making random hand gestures, hitting rubble with sledgehammers)… because it’s a memory of mary’s! she’s remembering it, and the details become blurred and the actions become nonsensical. It foreshadows how the backrooms functions.

  I personally like how the two main characters complete how the backrooms work. Clark as a failed architect, which links to how nothing logical makes sense there. And Mary&apos;s job as a therapist, linking to how the rooms are formed by memories of old, similar to how mary analyzes her client&apos;s memories

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV8CAbbbAlE&amp;t=950">15:50</a> The stool scene was definitely not for no reason! I think his usage of chairs in the first half of the movie represents how stagnant he is in his life. In most early scenes of Clark he is sitting down, in therapy, in bed, and then also after stealing the stool. It contrasts with how once he finds the backrooms he is usually exploring, walking around and able to move forward with his life.

  Clarks still form didn’t just kill him for apologizing to &quot;Debra&quot;. It was the declaration that they didn’t need to change. As captin clark is clarks manifestation of his own destructive nature, being told he can continue being &quot;himself&quot; is the dissolving of captain clarks idea of trying to be more human which is why he didn’t try to kill clark earlier. Captain clark saw that clark was himself, and was attempting to resolve his own nature because he saw clark as more than destruction. Once told he didn’t have to change, captain clark let go of the notion and killed clark, as it is simply the way he is

  People haven’t really talked enough about how absolutely stellar his cinematography and sound design is during this film. I feel they’re by far his greatest strength as a filmmaker.

  Just in case you are unaware, this movie is not only referential of Kane&apos;s YouTube series, but is a genuine part of it, just as much as it&apos;s its own film. It fits into the continuity that has been established by the series, and takes place in the weeks following events laid out by some of the YouTube videos, regarding the activities of Async as they continue to explore The Complex. Some of the latest events established by the YouTube series happen in May of 1990, and this movie is happening in late June of 1990. Also, even though the movie wraps itself up, it is not the end of Kane&apos;s story about the Backrooms, and the series will continue to tie into the events of this movie, as well as expand upon the established ideas of the existing YouTube entries.

  the movie gives you <b>plenty</b> of context with its visual storytelling, and thats why i love it<br><br>like for example, you see mary default to a fawn response with clark when he raises his voice-- and you get that scene earlier with her mother, showing her as a child holding her wrist and trying to comfort her to get her to calm down.<br><br>the copy of the wife is <b>terrified</b> of captain clark, while the other two are completely catatonic in his presence. it leads me to believe the main monster of the film may be how clark&apos;s ex remembers him, rather than his own copy of himself. bloodshot, bulging eyes, stumbling around drunk. belligerent and dressed in his mascot&apos;s outfit- signifying he was always at his job.<br><br>like. if you actually look for details, see how the backrooms themselves interact with the characters and vice versa, you get a lot of information just from that alone.<br><br>it really disappointed me to hear it fly over so many people&apos;s heads when i saw it in theaters. they just sat there and watched it at face value with absolutely nothing going on inside their head.<br><br>the backrooms&apos; initial post was designed as a leaping point for the imagination to build off of- but so many fans don&apos;t want to use theirs.
