Vietnam MIA Father Found After 23 Years in Jungle

  Colleen, I was on that deployment from Myrtle Beach AFB beginning in October 1972.  At that time I was a young enlisted man (I was later commissioned as an officer) and lived just down the street from your family in Garden City, S.C.  Your dad was an extremely kind and talented officer and gentleman.  Also, in my official Air Force duties I was involved with the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce as was your mom, Bonnie.  I watched intently as you tirelessly worked to get the truth behind your Dad’s MIA status.  You are a blessing and a joy to many people that you don’t even know.  May God richly bless you and give you peace, comfort, joy and happiness.  As a side note, many people are not aware of the following facts about our deployment from Myrtle Beach AFB.  Your Dad was the last U.S. Air Force pilot killed in the Vietnam war.  The last POW was another A-7D Corsair II pilot on that deployment from MBAFB (his name escapes me).  He was forced to bail out over the Plain Du Jars in Laos.  He was captured and forced to march barefoot (approximately 250 miles) to Hanoi where he was imprisoned.  Following the signing of the peace accords he returned to Myrtle Beach AFB where he was honored in ceremonies for his service and sacrifice.  Another fact about our deployment: the last bomb dropped and the last 20mm ammo fired from an airborne platform was by two A-7 pilots on that deployment from MYR. I decided not to list their names because they might still be around and want their privacy.  Peace and love to you and yours.  I know that your Dad would be so very proud of you. 🙏❤️🇺🇸✝️

  My dad flew with your dad, Colleen.He was an A7D pilot out of Myrtle Beach who went to Vietnam &nbsp;(well they went to Korat, Thailand) in 1972.

  I&apos;m so sorry about your dad. So glad you found him. What a blessing. My great uncle perished on the USS Indianapolis. I was so happy when they found the wreckage a few years ago. He was the youngest son of 6, and my great grandmother was broken hearted the ship was not found in her lifetime. These lost servicemen stories affect families for generations.
