  I have the basic KLX 230 version, and it's pretty solid. It will get you almost anywhere. Reliability and value was what I was looking for, and I got that. Good bike for the weekend warrior who isn't looking to break any records or bones. Not too big, not too small.

  As a typically genius ultra off-road noob who can barely handle his 450RL, I'm about 99 percent sure I should have bought one of these or something like it.  Great video.

  Bought this bike for the wife and im reaping the benefits as well.  Its a hoot and punches above what its intended purpose is imo.  Very surprised how good it has done actually.  The low seat height makes it very confidence inspiring.  Low ground clearance is the biggest caveat and just a tad underpowered and geared for highway.

  I had an old 250 Sherpa here in Vietnam. A bit slow and really sacked suspension but...I mounted a large-capacity XR tank on it and rode the heck out of it. It was tractable and it did have 6 gears so it was fine on the road but slow. Got incredible mileage and had almost no issues except that it was a bit sensitive to altitude changes. I imagine that would be an ideal bike for folks who just want to putt around. Mine would l go anywhere more modern and expensive bikes would go...just not in a hurry.

  Great review! If I were in the market for a trail bike, that one would be it! I have an '08 CRF 230 L and love the bike and will not trade it for a newer bike. Kawasaki nailed it with the Sherpa, for me anyway. At 66 years old my racing days are long behind me. I really like the lower seat height of the bike and at 230cc the bike has about enough power to have fun. Yamaha should have upped the cc on their new WR 125. The weight comes from all the stuff like electric start, larger batt. emissions, and all the other stuff now on new bikes. Maybe stiffer fork springs and heavier weight for oil would help some, but all and all, great little bike!

  I think that bar up front by the headlight is for towing purposes.

  The DF version seems like a good machine for beginners who are a little taller.

  The KLX230DF is taller for taller riders. I wish someone would do a performance video on that one. Its the same setup just taller which gives it a feeling of being a little bigger bike. Its great for dirt roads and woody single track trails. If these bikes had a little stiffer suspension it would be awesome for a newer riders or the don’t go so fast type riders.
