Wait, Hammond's death takes place in 1998? I thought viral marketing said 1997.

I still think the story about old father resurrecting his lost daughter is way more interesting as well as making much more sense, rather than some random mad scientist lady making a copy of herself simply because she wanted a daughter, yet she never thought about the consequence of her action to make a human clone.

Damn! I did not catch the connection of the cane. I knew it was from the presentation but I never catched it was thematcly linked via human cloning. And thank you for making this. Now I finally can lay this to rest after 8 years. I have never could piece the timeline correctly. The way you explain it here is great story telling. Colin is like George Lucas. They are great storytellers who spins themes together, but the dialouge can be rough. I wish David Koepp had helped on the World movies, especially FK and Dominion.

I really loved that reveal that Iris told Mills, made me love Fallen Kingdom even more

24:41 That happened in 1997 according to the websites, but FK's portrait says it was in 1998

I don't mind it. It's believable to imagine Mills thought he was in grief to clone her.

I really loved the version in Fallen Kingdom, it felt believable to me as I've met a lot of people who lost a loved one and dearly wished they would come back. It made Benjamin really relatable even if he wasn't the one stating that he cloned his daughter, it also added a layer of philosophy like the discussions in the dinner scene in Jurassic Park: "If you have the means, the money, the technology, the time, would you? SHOULD you?" Adding another layer to the fact that more questions would come to mind as time went on, for example, the father figure realizing that their lost child can't be brought back, that what makes us isn't just how we look like but our experiences, our growth and education. He's happy his daughter is around but you can sense a subtle feeling that he's still trapped in the past, due to the fact that he has a personal book full of pictures of Charlotte always within reach, to the point that he looks at it until he falls asleep. We don't know how often he does this while watching, but it gave me the impression that it wasn't the first time and it also gave me the impression of mixed feelings within the character: Eagerly happy with his daughter that's present in his mansion, and longenly sad about his other daughter that he lost. Benjamin could separate his love and treat them individually, loving them as their own person and not as a copy, but what if someone else did that? Could they see that they're not the same person brought back to life? Would they regret doing so? Would it be considered crossing a line if someone brought someone else back for selfish reasons? It added a lot of layers without us needing to know "how" he did it and I loved that about the story.

Honestly, my first reaction when I saw Dominion retcon all of this wasn't disappointment, anger or sadness, I felt in a way, creeped out, it gave me the impression of ego to the point of cloning yourself and with an added layer of not needing anyone else but yourself (This is just my first impression, after rewatching I lost this view, maybe it was the delivery of the info we got? Or maybe it was just me and I know that's a possibility, of not reading the scene properly the first time). After rewatching several times more I don't have any positive or negative feelings towards that scene, it brings other questions like "is it possible to clone someone else instead of yourself like this? Would someone cross this line instead?", but I didn't feel the same connection someone could have of relatability of losing someone they dearly missed, compared to raising an identical child and that child having a high chance of not feeling like their own person like we see Maisie state at the beginning of Dominion.
If we were to point out specifically that she was infertile and wanted to be a mother and Maisie was a pleasant surprise, that would have been great, I would have loved it, but if my memory isn't wrong, I can only remember that she had a terminal illness and that she wanted a full normal life. I have to rewatch the movie to see if I'm missing anything more.

I like to point out that at the time I watched Dominion I never considered how Maisie was cloned, and the reactions I mentioned for both movies were my first time viewing of them in theaters. I've rewatched both several times and Fallen Kingdom is still my favorite sequel, even with the Retcon, and I do like Dominion even with all of the flaws that I wished were different.

Great video as always! I especially loved the timeline you set showing details I never noticed before, like Charlotte's vlogs being in Lockwood's hidden Lab, and pointing out that what drove them apart was the intention of human cloning and not specifically the act, made me enjoy both movies more since Benjamin and Maisie were a big factor to why I fell in love with Fallen Kingdom in the first place, having a strong and "blink and you miss it" detail of Charlotte in the mansion made me love the hidden backstory connection of these 3 characters even more! Thank you!

You know what kind of prequel/midquel that could have worked really well in the Jurassic universe? A miniseries from the POV of Biosyn. Set in 1994 and inspired by the start of the Lost world novel. Dodgson is trying to uncover the secrets of InGen, he sends a team in and at the same time InGen is cleaning up at Isla Nublar. He also finds out about Site B just as hurricane Clarissa vipes it out, believing the technology is lost. (Untill 1997 ofcourse). The loss of the "treasure" at the end is classic Crichton, and it would set up both The lost world and Biosyn more proper. What do you think?

No offense, but I think I'm now even more confused than I already was.

Who says Lockwood had no knowledge of what Mills knew until he murdered him? That line from Mills did nothing to overtly indicate that he was admitting what he knew to him right then. I don't see what sense there is Lockwood keeping this all a secret from his right hand man anyway.

The question I've had since Dominion isn't how Mills knew. It's how couldn't he have known. We were told he had been Lockwood's assistant since college. That's, what, 12 years at bare minimum? So he would have been around when Maisie was born, and for at least a few of the years that Charlotte herself was down in the laboratory doing her research. Are we to understand that he was oblivious to her true cause of death, he never met Maisie as an infant before then, and Iris told him that Lockwood immediately got on top of replacing his daughter, AND that Maisie was conceived as a two-year-old? Even if Lockwood did have some reason to keep this all a secret from Mills, there's no plausible scenario where he could have had the chance.

This retcon is maddening. If it really was what Trevorrow had in mind before making Fallen Kingdom (which I doubt), he sure did a poor job thinking everything through.

I really love Maisie's story in the series. It's fascinating and downright horrifying when you go into it all (and how it's all framed especially in Fallen Kingdom)

I get people like the grieving father/parent angle, but personally that would've been too cliché. That's a story that has been overplayed many times, so I like how Dominion explained her cloning. I just think It's a more unique tale

Also the surrogacy parent mentioned at 4:04 could actually be an interesting plot to explore in Jurassic

I recently watched Jurassic World with my nephews and I really like that movie still to this day. Looking forward to watching Fallen Kingdom again soon.

Brother you're thinking WAY harder about this plot device than the writers did!
