  Dino of Seventeen recently said that he doesn’t want to be an idol who lacks self-awareness just because he knows he has fans who will support him unconditionally. “I want my fans to say they loved me because I was someone worth loving, not because they loved me no matter what.” That, in conjunction with Fatou straight up saying that idols and companies know exactly what they’re doing but don’t care because it doesn’t really result in any significant impact (because they don’t view black fans as significant), tells you everything. Stop infantilizing your faves. They are counting on you to do that so they can continue to be ignorant and unaccountable.

  and most of the time when you call out a kpop idol for racism it eventually turns into a “which kpop idol is more racist” stan war

  As a Korean person, I notice it a LOT in korea, Koreans tokenize (I believe that&apos;s the right word) American &quot;culture&quot; and it&apos;s just black culture and they say it&apos;s cool &quot;hip hop&quot;. So they act all &quot;hip hop&quot; and emulate how they think Americans are. but the thing is, the second they want to be perceived as &apos;proper&apos; or &apos;elegant&apos; they take off that mask and go back to their usual selves. So it&apos;s deeply ingrained in Korean culture, not just kpop. I think that is what perpetuates the cycle.

  A teenage white girl said in a conversation I was hearing in school back in 2013 something that I never forget. Her friend was asking her why she didn&apos;t like Kpop culture and she said:&quot;Kpop fans are just people that love black music, style and maneirism but don&apos;t like seein black people doing it, because they don&apos;t find them cute. They want Destiny Child without the black girls and N.W.A attitude without the black boys.&quot; She was justifying why she prefers the original americans that created it. I found ot interesting because she was white and in the same age range of Kpop fans, but she had a good understanding about culture and racial issues.

  Another annoying thing when people say &quot;I&apos;m black and I wasn&apos;t offended&quot; is that you know the majority of likes those comments get are from non-black fans. Those same ppl that&apos;ll say, &quot;If you&apos;re not black, you don&apos;t get to forgive these idols. We can&apos;t insert ourselves in the conversation blah blah&quot; will cherry pick and boost (supposedly) black comments that are most convenient and comfortable to their narrative, so they dont need to address the issue, and not give the same attention to all the comments that are saying &quot;I am black and I am offended.&quot;
