  It&apos;s crazy how people are complaining about this in depth answer and completely missing the information. Just because you like Adam monitors. You can&apos;t fix stupid! Thanks for taking the time to break it down for us :)

  Started with basic room acoustic treatment and cheapo Mackie 5¼ inch monitors. Checked all my mixes on Sennheiser HD650 headphones. Managed like that for a good few years. Saved up, and had the room acoustics upgraded by a professional acoustic engineer, and got Genelec 8040&apos;s on stands. Absolute game changer. Mixing decisions take less time, low end information is much more balanced and defined.<br>If you&apos;re on a tight budget like I was originally, get dedicated headphones and use them to make mix decisions. Have a pair of cheap monitors for listening/blasting your track in a &quot;fun&quot; way.<br>Dont bother with any fancy speakers until you get your room acoustics sorted out properly.

  Troels Grafesen conceived big 4way monitors with 18&quot; bass and 10&quot; lowmids and observed that even in modest spaces it could express the quality of big sound like in real life concerts

  My first set of monitors were a set of Mackie 824 clones made by Behringer. In 2007 I made the jump to a pair of Adam A7, and use them to this day. I struggled and struggled to get the low-end right, until one day I was mixing a live show, and wondered why it was so easy to dial in the low end in a live environment, but so evasive in the studio. That’s when I realized that I “listen” to the low end with my body as much or more so than with my ears. So, I found the first sub I could find that reached down to 20hz accurately - which turned out to be a Bag-End D18E. I use their ELF crossover, and with tuning from Sonarworks, I am able to hear 20hz to 20kz +\- .5 db in the listening position with a sub $5k setup. 😎

  Hey scoop and people. I tend to believe there is value packed in this video and kudos for the effort making it but not to spoil the video, sorry scoop, if there is anything more or less here saying that the bigger the speaker the better for any kind of room. Why? The bigger the speaker the lower the it can produce natural sounding sub. That beats all. Real sound, Truth.

  Smaller speaker with a sub not only turns it to a 3 way butIi find it better , as you mentioned &nbsp;because you can mix at close range in a room that isn’t perfect. The minute you start moving back the room has to be tuned. As a home recordist I find small is better. I usually use the Neumann kh80 and an Adam a7 sub ( discontinued now ) but the Adam’s are great. I’ve just picked up the Tantrum audio Angry boxes, they only go to 16kh butIi think I’m going to use them as mains for tracking and general mixing. You lose a little air but they are brutally honest and efficient. I pair it with the sub but just kiss the bass slightly and that is working for me. The benefit of the angry box is that they have a mix cube style setting and a flatter linear setting that’s great. They are 14cm cubed! In an untreated room i would recommend calibration. It won’t fix everything but just get you closer &nbsp;and a close range you really can hear well.

  Great video with lots of useful information. That being said, another reason a monitor may be called midfield vs nearfield is because of the higher SPL capability of the speaker making it ideal for listening at a further distance.

  I had 4” monitors back in 2009. They didn’t sound that great, but at that time it did the job. Currently on 7” ADAM monitors. I have a fairly large studio space and for the money they’re amazing. I’m moving to another place in the nearby future that’s currently under construction so I can make sure that the room treatments are spot on. Great and comprehensive video.
