I just had a woman I was seeing tell me that she didn’t think she could commit and didn’t want to lead me on. Broke my heart a little bit, but I’m grateful for the respect and honesty she showed me

People have been ghosting each other forever. It just took a lot longer before the invention of electricity. In Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, published in the early 1800s, one of the characters Marianne fell in with a man who made her feel like they were eventually going to get married. And then one day he up and vanished. She wrote him many many letters. It was only until they saw each other in public and he was on the arm of a wealthy Heiress that Marianne finally realized he wasn't coming back. And then that fucking guy had the audacity to write her a letter stating that their whole relationship was actually friendship. And he also knocked up a lower class woman and abandoned her.
There are ancient scrolls and clay tablets full of people writing to their supposed beloved and never receiving a reply.
This is human behavior that has been consistent across time. Only now we're doing it on a much larger scale and much faster.

I quiet-quit the relationship with my mother after years of tolerance and trying to have sit down meetings/talks with her about my childhood experiences.

I "quiet quit" a friendship that I had for years when I realised I was the one always making plans and texting to check in so I just stopped bothering and they never contacted me been nearly 4 years now.

I've quiet quit relationships, and I've been quiet-quitted on. Being the recipient of quiet quitting made me realize that I owe it to the other person to at least give them a chance to make a change. Keeping things to myself and stewing over it, expecting the other person to read my mind while I act like everything is fine, isn't fair.

That being said... I still quiet quit someone after having this realization. This was a friend who betrayed me, and KNEW she betrayed me. She was very emotionally intelligent and expected loyalty from her friends, so when she did what she did, I didn't feel the need to give her a second chance.

I stopped reaching out to a close friend I’d known for 15 years now and we haven’t spoken in several months. I was tired of carrying the friendship and I’ve moved on

That first story isn't really quiet quitting... It's just what happens when a partner starts cheating. They stop being invested in the old relationship and start investing in the new one. She didn't cheat because he wasn't good enough, she cheated because she's a cheater.

Being autistic you get kind of used to this on both ends. You try and maintain contact but you eventually feel like a nuisance. You also realize that some people do something that triggers a response in you and you don't know how to actually address the situation, so you just watch it flounder.

“She’s too busy. Although I’m happy she’s trying to accomplish her goals, I want a friend who is already established and is able to enjoy life rather than fighting for the basics.”

WOW, may a friend like that NEVER find me. Do people not remember what “fair weather” frinds are anymore? i cant believe this person said this online like it’s not a judgmental, selfish mindset..

I quiet quit a friendship recently because I realized I didn’t have any meaningful feedback to share about what they were doing “wrong.” There were no adjustments to be made on their part because it wasn’t just that I didn’t like certain off hand things they did, but I fundamentally did not like who they were as a person. And that didn’t feel particularly productive to share.

After five years of intensive trauma therapy where I got in touch with my values and developed a concrete sense of what matters to me, I found that the new version of myself that emerged was out of step with a lot of the relationships I had previously cultivated.
