New Skoda Elroq Full Review: Award Winner… But Is It Any Good?

This Skoda Elroq review asks whether the award-winning compact electric SUV delivers the practicality, range and value everyday buyers need. Vicki Butler-Henderson drives the rear-wheel-drive Elroq Edition 85 and compares it with the Kia EV3 and other rivals. Prices range from around £33,500 to £47,000. The Edition 85 costs approximately £40,000, produces around 300 hp and 545 Nm, reaches 62 mph in 6.6 seconds and offers up to 360 miles of claimed range. WHAT’S IMPRESSIVE • Generous 470-litre boot expands to 1,580 litres • Official range of 360 miles from the Edition 85 • Quiet, refined driving and a commendably comfortable ride • 1,200 kg towing capacity and 48 litres of cabin storage WHAT TO CONSIDER • No front boot or dedicated charging-cable storage • More brake-pedal travel than Vicki would like • Many functions require the central touchscreen • Skoda’s warranty is less generous than Kia’s PRACTICALITY AND SPACE Boot space runs from 470 to 1,580 litres, up to 300 litres more than the smaller Kia EV3 with the seats folded. An adjustable parcel shelf, useful trays and hooks, 48 litres of cabin storage and 1,200 kg towing capacity reinforce the practical focus. However, there is no front boot or dedicated place for charging cables. RANGE AND CHARGING The Edition 85 has the longest official range in the line-up at 360 miles. Skoda says its battery can charge from 10-80% in 28 minutes at a suitable rapid charger. ON THE ROAD The single motor drives the rear wheels and its 545 Nm makes the Edition 85 feel sprightly. Vicki finds the handling decent, but says its quietness, refinement and composed ride over difficult roads matter more to most buyers. Regeneration is strongest in B mode, although she prefers a lower setting. The conventional brake pedal has noticeable travel before the car slows as sharply as she would like. INTERIOR AND TECHNOLOGY Recycled bottles and clothing contribute to a distinctive mix of cabin textures. The 13-inch screen handles many functions despite the physical shortcuts. Heated mirrors, wireless Apple CarPlay and a reversing camera are standard, while Vicki praises the large, clearly positioned blind-spot warning lights. WHEELS AND TYRES The 20-inch wheels wear Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 EV tyres developed for electric vehicles. Sound absorber technology is intended to reduce cabin noise, while verified motorists have rated the tyre 4.5 out of 5 on DriverReviews. RIVALS The Kia EV3 is smaller and has a longer warranty, but the Elroq provides greater maximum luggage capacity and tows an additional 200 kg. The Audi Q4 e-tron, Cupra Born and Ford Explorer share related MEB foundations but place more emphasis on performance or luxury. VICKI’S VERDICT Its spacious cabin, useful storage, competitive range and comfortable ride make the Skoda Elroq a convincing everyday EV. The braking response and screen-heavy controls leave room for improvement, but Vicki concludes that it has plenty to offer.
