  Wow, I went to the most tiny little rural Christian school. 50 people from K-12. Chapel twice a week. Bible study an entire class. We had LOTR on the book shelf.

  There is another possibility: &nbsp;Posobiec doesn&apos;t recognize the Christian elements because he isn&apos;t Christian. &nbsp;I don&apos;t know what&apos;s in the man&apos;s heart, but he wouldn&apos;t be the only one to use a faith he doesn&apos;t share as a tool for his own advancement.

  I haven’t even started watching and already my eyes are rolling. Tolkien was painfully, obviously, extremely <b>Catholic.</b> The man was raised by a priest and raised a priest. He converted C.S. Lewis to Christianity. He said his prayers in Latin, loudly, even after the Mass switched to English. <br><br>How can anyone call themselves a Tolkien fan and not see the deep roots of Christianity underpinning the entire legendarium?<br><br>Edit: I’ve now watched it. You hit everything right on the mark.

  JRR Tolkien wrote a letter to his son, Christopher, during his son&apos;s WWII military service in Africa, that people would tell him that he must be as evil as the enemy to win, but disregard that. &quot;Stay true to your hobbittness (humility)&quot;.<br><br>CS Lewis wrote a very similar sentiment in his essay, The Necessity of Chivalry.<br><br>Having suffered under such similar military members as Tolkien warned Christopher of, reading this letter was a great comfort.
