  Jerry Titus was killed in a Pontiac Trans Am at Road America at Elkhart Lake, not Atlanta. I was sitting at Canada Corner when the accident happened.

  The first King Cobras were Cooper Monaco chassis with Cobra 289 engines and began racing in 1963 and continued into 1964.  Notable drivers were Dave McDonald and Bob Holbert.

  I had never seen this car before seeing this video. &nbsp;I&apos;m a hard core Shelby guy and as soon as you said Cobra, I knew what this is. &nbsp;I said to myself &quot;Carroll Shelby went Can Am racing&quot;. Cheers

  Got to hang out with Steve when he entered the car In the 2024 ARIZONA CONQUORS in Scottsdale, (This year&apos;s show is January 18th!) and I was the class host for the American Powered Racing Cars class.<br>Super neat guy, and one heck of a story bringing this car to where it is. Coolest part, in a show full of cars that are pretty much &quot;Don&apos;t touch&quot; he was having kids, and pretty much anybody that asked, sit in the car!!!

  Regarding the Weslake connection…<br><br>Gurney’s association with Harry Weslake was twofold…<br><br>1) Weslake designed special cylinder heads on Gurney’s behalf for the small-block Ford. These were sold over the counter, used on Gurney’s Indy and Can-Am engines as well as Ford’s Le Mans-winning GT40 in 1968 &amp; ‘69.<br><br>2) In 1966 Gurney contracted with Weslake to design and build a 3-liter 4-cam V12 for his Formula 1 Eagle. While generally unreliable, Dan did win the 1967 Belgian GP at Spa with this engine.<br><br>As for the King Cobra? Its engine was built using the same Gurney-Weslake heads created for use on small-block Fords, which bolted directly onto the experimental 351 blocks.<br><br>There you have it…

  I&apos;m intrigued by the single horizontal spring in the front. &nbsp; That looks like something which only went into fashion in the 1980&apos;s or 1990&apos;s in F3 and F1. &nbsp;Specifically, using a coil spring for roll control instead of roll bar, or else using a single coil spring &amp; shock in the front for holding up the car, and then decoupling the roll forces into a dedicated spring of some sort (Belview washers or maybe a sway bar of some sort). &nbsp;It would be interesting to see what&apos;s going on there!
