Ford Sealed This Engine Shut and Told Shelby: Don't Open It

I'll go first on the one that still haunts me: Ford killed the championship-winning Daytona Coupe the instant it won — to chase cubic inches and the overall Le Mans crown. Did Detroit's "bigger is better" obsession throw away the greatest giant-killer it ever built? And if Ken Miles had lived to race the Mustang built for him, does the whole Ford-vs-Ferrari story end differently? Drop your answer below — especially if you've ever turned a wrench on one of these. I read every one.

Purchased a new 64 Comet with a 260 CI loved it . Three speed on the column . Put 80,000 miles on it and it never leaked a drop of oil. One of the best cars I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of cars in 88 years.

They forgot the heavy-duty main bearing caps on the Hi Po 289!

We had a 17'6"' Klinker hull with a 289 K code that could rev to 9,000 rpm and do 105knots all day. It used to put big-block Chevys to shame!

At the start of the 1960's, Ford's V8 was not the Y-block, it was the FE

My 1997 F150 has a 280 "4.6" V8 and it's one fine engine.

I had a 66 mustang factory 3 speed on the floor. It was a blast. Scary on a wet road.

I drove a 66 Fairlane with a 289 as a carpool vehicle to work and frequently got comments from carpool passengers when I would leave corvettes in the dust at traffic lights. Northeast winters and salt on the roads rusted the car away. I miss the peppy performance.

Yes sir they are nice little engines. I work for a restoration shop in Maine and I am presently rebuilding a tired 289 in a 1967 Tiger. Great video keep up the good work

I remember that engine that was sealed I Read about it in the Schelby Racing Cobras Book. When they went to fire it it wouldn't start, when they pulled teh valve covers off it had no push roods in it.
