There are 12 regular season college games. 6 or 7 of them are played on home field. So, just a short window to watch your team play at home.

Also remember, while a college/university may have thousands of students, the alumni of any given university are in the hundreds of thousands. For example, Texas A&M has 71,000 main campus students. The total number of living alumni...over 600,000.

There is no rivalry between the NFL and College Football. College football is the feeder system for the NFL. Also, College Football predates the NFL by 60 years.

The National Football League played its first season in 1920. The oldest top tier college sports league is the Big Ten Conference, which began playing football in 1896. It took the NFL about 40 years to match the popularity of college football. Keep in mind that the college and universities here have multiple sports teams. Besides American football, these schools also have men and women's basketball teams, baseball, volleyball, softball, soccer football, track and field (athletics), golf, swimming, and gymnastics. Some schools also have ice hockey and wrestling teams. In 2025, the 136 FBS schools drew a combined 47.5 million in attendance.

There's a couple of other reasons that NFL stadiums are smaller, and they have actually been slightly reducing capacity more recently. I don't know if they still do, but nfl used to have have a 100 mile live tv blackout policy if the game was not sold out. Also, they have a league wide attendance revenue sharing policy, so both of those discouraged teams from over building capicity, to right size for sellouts. The exception is though, they don't have to share revenue for suites and other hospitality revenue, which is why nfl stadiums have so many suites.

Parking is a combination of public lots and private parking. For example, my parish in Clemson SC (Clemson University) rents out parking spaces in our parking lot on game days. It’s a fundraiser for church activities. The closer to the stadium, the more expensive the parking space. My dad & I went to an NFL game, parked privately 3 blocks away and it was maybe 25 USD. Had we parked in the garage nearer to the stadium, it would have been 4x the cost.

The College Football season just started. Many of the games are televised so even if you can't go there are plenty of games to watch. Regular season runs through Thanksgiving Weekend. Thanksgiving is the last Thursday in November. The next week is for Conference Championships. The week after that is the Army vs Navy game. December and January have post season games. A D1-FBS season is 12 games one per week and one bye (week off). In addition to D1-FBS, there is also D1-FCS, D2, and D3.

The 1958 NFL Championship is probably where the NFL caught up to NCAA Football in popularity. It was a game between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants, played in Yankee Stadium. The Colts won in overtime by a touchdown. Johnny Unitas handed the ball to Alan Ameche for a 1 yard touchdown to win.
