I wonder if beeswax or rosin would keep the shape of the hairs?

I have a watch chain woven from strands of my great-great grandmother's hair. It's an incredible heirloom, though it only has value to my family.

I have a friend here in the UK who started working with hair as part of the final year of her art degree, as a mature student. She's a former hairdresser, so when she started using hair to make statements and ask questions it was just natural.
She's now resurrecting Victorian hair work as well: running workshops, making bespoke jewellery, and teaching in museums. (She takes donations of hair, and still has hairdressing contacts)

Wait… So, while we 90s kids were making friendship bracelets all day like we invented the concept, meanwhile the Victorians were doing basically the same thing with their actual hair??? Cool!

for the horsehair one, you should use a pony bead (i'm not sorry)

Hair jewellery is so cool. Till this day we think of hair as one of the prettiest things on a person - maybe more accurately, one of the things that has the biggest visual impact and frames the face - and having beautiful hair is a huge compliment, but somehow we find it gross when it's cut off? And it has this neat feature that if you cut it, it grows back, so you can give a lock of it to someone who wants to have a part of you with them at all times. Also it is lovely to touch. It makes so much sense to make it into art symbolic of the person it came from, really.

My father has two very ornate Victorian Hair Wreathes made from the hair of my now-dead ancestors. We refer to them as the Family Hair-looms 😂

My sisters and I have talked about what we will do with them when the time comes that we have to deal with them, as none of us particularly want them. On of my nephews (who is currently 12 years old) is fascinated by them, so we hope that this fascination endures and he wants them in perpetuity...
