I did a presentation on this exact fashion trend. Of particular note is the variety of colors that are mentioned in the historical accounts, including red, green and purple. One account spoke of a woman getting married wearing "a green silken pair of braids with gold," while another woman was described as having "red braids with golden jewelry." If you're interested on the subject, I highly recommend the book 'Dressing Up' by Prof. Ulinka Rublack.

I love how this shows that medieval fashion and aesthetics were much more unique, creative, and individual and not all browns, dirt, and peasant-chic.

This fringe thing is "The back of my hair is not my business" as an accessory

The green fringe is the medieval version of
“business in the front party in the back”😉❤️

. At first I thought the gefrens was a bizarre accessory, then realized it's actually a beautiful way to conceal that weirdness at the back that keeps me from feeling confident in braids! This was a fantastic experimental archeology episode; thanks Morgan!

As someone who draws and paints humans for their fashion, I can guarantee these noodly hats are simplified and improved in pictures. When I have to sketch something floppy, I would usually draw it as flattering as possible on my character rather than sticking to realism, because I know what the wearer actually wants it to look like, and the vibe they are going for. So you can give yourself credit for the hat, it might not have required as much pinning as it looks, and it could just have been an artist's rendition of its optimal placement

Once you pinned your bangs back it created a bizarre sense of nostalgia, like a return to Morgan 4 years ago before the Big Chop lol

I feel like I'm seeing a historical example of early 2000s goth style "dread falls", and I'm here for it.

I find it so interesting how, looking at the prints and paintings shown in the video, the additional headwear (the gefrens, the hood/hat thing) looks... a little silly. To me, at least. But seeing it come together on a real person and seeing all the fringes move and bounce around, it looks so *cool*. The whole look is much more cohesive than I initially thought. Like that's probably what it would have looked like centuries ago. I dunno, it's just so neat.
