He is tempted to unleash the Force right then and there. But instead glances around for Grievous through the smoke. And then he sees a faint glimmer of metal. The chancellor tenses, but it falls past them, giving everyone in the elevator a good look at just what it was. A severed arm that rushes past them and disappears into the ground below. As the smoke clears, Palpatine cranes his head up and sees the full extent of carnage. He finds Grievous, or what's left of him, half-buried in the hole the clone created with that missile. Though he is virtually unrecognizable, save for one leg sparking and poking out from the rubble and the mess of circuits. The rest of him is staining the side of the Senate building, painting it in broad strokes of black and bone white. Shaak Ti: Disbelief. Oh, wow…that was…surprisingly easy. Palpatine: Shocked. Y-yes, it most certainly was. I uhhh, still can’t believe it. G-good job. CT-1139: Excited. Oh hell yeah! Did you all see that? How about you, 1137? I took out General Grievous! And the sarge told me bringing a rocket launcher to the chancellor's office was a bad idea! Well, the boys in the barracks aren’t gonna believe this. CT-1137: I’m standing right here, and I can’t believe it. But that was a rush! Come on, let's find something else to blow up! Shaak Ti: Control yourself, both of you. We still need to get the chancellor to safety. The rest of the rescue party nods as the elevator dings open. They take the chancellor to their speeder and bring him to the bunker without further incident. The Jedi post themselves outside and stand guard for any more intruders while the clones escort him to his chambers. Palpatine follows them with a calm smile, once again thanking them for their help. Once the door shuts behind them, he immediately grabs his communicator and calls Dooku, not bothering with his hood. Dooku: Master? What is- Palpatine: Dooku! What the Kriff kind of assassins are you sending after me! That stupid cyborg got hit by a rocket! Dooku: Wait? Are you telling me the general was incapacitated? Palpatine: Hysterical. Incapacitated? He’s dead! He got blown to bits. He’s now giving the Senate building a new paint job! Why did he think that taking a rocket in the face wouldn’t kill him? Dooku: Well, master. I didn’t know he would do something like that. Palpatine: You mean him acting like a fucking idiot! Well, now I’m safely in my bunker with a Jedi escort. So I hope you have another assassin on standby. Dooku: Awkward. Well, I might have…I may be…I’ll make some calls. Palpatine: You'd better find someone who isn’t dumb enough to stand and stare when shot at! And hurry. These Jedi are probably gonna spend their time asking if I’m ok or whether I feel safe. I hate small talk like that, plus I never learned their names. All of them look the same to me. He’s cut off by knocking outside. CT-1137: Chancellor? Are you alright? Are you speaking to someone there? Palaptine: Yes, yes. I’m fine. Just giving my report to Mas Amedda. CT-1137: Alright, but I also heard you saying we all look the same. Umm, not to start a fight or something, but are we gonna have a problem here? Palpatine: What? Shocked. Oh, Lucas, no! I didn’t mean it like that. I didn’t mean you troopers, you fellas are great. CT-1137: Riiiiight. Well, if you need anything, just call me. Palpatine: Of course, of course. Whispers. You'd better find an assassin, and you'd better find it fast! I’m not sure how much longer I can survive out here! He shuts the communicator off and 1137 walks away, wondering if that comment is one of those things he should file with the Senate ethics committee. As Palpatine waits, he tries to distract himself by pouring himself some tea and keeping track of the situation on the holonet. While he is safe, the rest of the city is facing the brunt of the CIS invasion, as everywhere he looks on the cameras, he sees droids pouring onto the streets or strafing the sky. #starwars #starwarswhatif #whatif
