Let’s explore the depths of it in the video. Mace Windu looks to leave, but stops when he sees a look on Anakin’s face. He has reached into his shatterpoint ability before and noted how everything seems to converge back to Anakin. This time, however,he doesn’t need Shatterpoint to read Anakin. Mace Windu: Anakin, if there is something you need to tell me, I’m listening. Anakin can’t explain it, but in a frantic whirlwind of stress, everything comes spilling out. He admits to his marriage to Padme. He reveals the dreams he has about her dying and the promise Palpatine made. In truth, he expects to be scorned by Mace and to swear that Anakin will be expelled for breaking the Jedi code. But when he looks up, he sees the Jedi Master put a hand on his shoulder and give him a genuine smile. Mace: So…that’s why you wanted the rank of Master. Anakin: Yes, Master…look, I know I’ve broken the code, but I… Mace: You’re not as alone as you think you are. Anakin: What do you mean? Mace: “Anakin....The Jedi are not strangers to connections or attachments. One of our Masters has a family. Before the war, Fisto and Aayla were romantically seeing each other; the only thing stopping them now is the commitment to the war effort. I’m no exception. My loyalty, my attachment. is to the Republic itself. When we warn of attachment leading to the dark side, we are not condemning or closing bonds. We are warning against the kind of hold that twists you. Obsession. The need to control an outcome so fiercely that you lose yourself trying to shape it. That is the line. When you begin to compromise who you are… when you bend your principles to protect what you fear losing… that is when the dark side starts to move through you. I will promise you this. If what you say is true about the chancellor, and you are willing to bear with me this one last time, you will have earned your seat on the council, a true seat. You’ll also have my word. If the force permits me to come back, I’ll personally help you search the archives. We’ll find a way to protect the senator together. Do you understand?” Anakin’s eyes beam, feeling absolutely elated. Though it does nothing to elevate the nightmares themselves, just what Maser Windu offers him means all the world to him; perhaps it was not enough of a guarantee, but it was enough to pull him off the edge of the abyss. Anakin: O-Of course, master! Thank you! Thank you! What do I need to do now? Mace: First thing? Leave this place behind for a while. Go to your wife. Stay with her. Off‑world, if that’s what it takes. Let the dust settle, let your mind settle. And trust us to handle the rest. One last time. Anakin: Sorry, master. I can’t in good conscience leave the planet knowing you’re risking your lives out there. But, take this. It’s the address to Padme’s and mine’s apartment. When this is all over, come by as soon as you can. Mace: Understood. And Anakin…the force will be with you, always, Anakin rushes to his apartment and embraces Padme, explaining the whole situation. Without even being asked, she agrees to testify against Palpatine when the inevitable time of a hearing comes. The two try to relax, watching a holofilm and spending some romantic time together, but it doesn't help. Anakin finds himself having a hard time keeping his mind off the potential confrontation going on the other side of the political district. When the Council confronts Palpatine, the duel is long and brutal, more execution than battle. One by one, Saesee Tiin, Agen Kolar, and Kit Fisto are cut down, their defenses shattered in blinding flashes of red. They fall hard, fast, and without ceremony, until only Mace Windu remains. Windu meets Sidious head-on and, through sheer will and mastery, begins to overpower him. The Dark Lord falters, driven back, his fury turning desperate as he realizes Anakin is not coming. Sidious spits a final curse, and Windu answers it with a single, merciless stroke, his blade carving clean through flesh and bone, bisecting Palpatine horizontally. An hour later, Anakin hears the doorbell ring. Mace is before. #starwars #starwarswhatif #whatif
