I approximated pi at a young age when attempting to sew a cylindrical bag. I just drew a circle and measured. "3 plus a little more" turned out to not be accurate enough, so the bag ended up with an extra piece to close the circle. When we got to it in school i was flabbergasted that this was something I could have just looked up.

Great video! I memorised pi to several hundred places as a seven year old in 1974. I still remember two hundred or so. And no, I didn't remain single all my life. In 1974 I could only find 150 places in a library book so my Dad, who worked at ICL computers in England, used their mainframe computer for several hours to churn through a formula, possibly Machin's but I'm not sure. The 1000 places he produced on old style A2 daisy wheel paper stood on the school dining room hall for many years as a tribute to pi, maths, computers and as a challenge to kids to memorise it's digits. ❤️
