  The layers in this song musically, lyrically and visually are absolutely heartbreaking - the story of ONE being really a story of many and sadly as relevant today as it would have been when this song came out. <br><br>p.s I&apos;ve since been informed by this lovely community that the visuals in this music video are from a movie and book that are in their own right absolutely devastating.

  The lyrics are tied to 2 of the band members&apos; favorite 1971 anti-war film &quot;Johnny Got his Gun&quot; based on the 1939 anti-war novel with the same name and the clips being shown in the video is from that very 1971 film

  Metallica&apos;s first video certainly hit it out of the park. The movie (&quot;Johnny Got His Gun&quot;) video and audio overlay help tell the story, but a clear listening of the track without all that is just as good without the explanation. It&apos;s hauntingly beautiful.
