Seeing the panel shrink as you cool out with the air hose is awesome. Thanks for the demos

I heat it up then throw a wet rag on it to shrink the heated area.

I tried to learn something similar to this, as a teenager. Metal finished was the holy grail, with no filler or even high build primer allowed. The body man in the garage used to heat panels and slap them with a broad, flat tool, sometimes wrapped in leather. It was slow work but he was the best I’ve ever seen. He could find where the metal was stretched and remind it where it’s supposed to be, as he called it. Paint thickness was supposed to be uniform and he abhorred cheap repairs where there were multiple layers of paint and filler, disguising damage, rather than fixing it.
He said that was the difference between a quality car and a replica. Genuine Aston or a sculpture of an Aston. He could spot a sculpture a mile off and wouldn’t allow it in the door.
I didn’t have the patience. I always thought it was good enough just when he thought it was getting interesting. Nowadays I wish I’d paid more attention, because nobody seems to be doing that standard of work any more and he’s been dead for over thirty years, taking his skills with him.
I’m becoming conscious of how the cars at classic shows look as though they’ve been dipped in liquid plastic and it’s a shame not to see the crisp sharp lines with only microns of paint covering them. I can picture my old mentor shuddering at the sight of them.

Thanks for another great video. This method is better than weld tack method and there's no grinding involved. Usually these seem to be more common on the roof i guess because of the large flat area. I'm about to start work on the twin cab truck's roof using paint stripper for the first time. Your videos have taught me a lot of practical things in bodywork and i can't appreciate enough. Thanks so much and more questions coming as i build my experience in this.
