  I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding of security clearances here. A security clearance isn't really looking very deeply into a person's psychology. It's looking more into a person's susceptibility to coercion, whether that be bribery or blackmail, and whether they will sell or volunteer information. The investigators expect to find narcissism and excessive ego, especially in pilots, so there may not have been a whole lot of red flags they would be looking for.

  Your show is a breath of fresh air. But, your gentle tone is often drowned out by the ‘background’ (often foreground) music. Would love to see this tweaked. You’re such a compelling storyteller; it’s why we’re here, and it’s a shame to lose out on that. Looking forward to the next episode.

  As a consumer of true crime stories I am very familiar with many of the stories youve covered. But your perspectives are much different, much more detailed, and delivered in a way that keeps attention. Exceptional.

  The French Foreign Legion has an actual ceremony for removing someone from their ranks. On parade ground, in front of your peers, all decorations and regimental markings are violently removed. Your uniform is torn, and finally your sword is broken. You are now a civilian never to be mentioned by any Leigioneer. Sounds like something that would be fitting.

  Masterful interview. Smythe admits he only had a 50/50 belief that Russell Williams was guilty going into the interview. He states that the moment of certainty was William's silence when shown the shoeprints. Smythe states an innocent person of his ego would have loudly proclaimed. The silence was the tell.

  This is a disciplined career military man, also an ace at compartmentalization. He could easily evade notice by the security clearances.
