  I can’t imagine what Jack endured mentally & physically all those years.  Not being able to scream in pain or tell someone that you’re uncomfortable has to be absolute agony.

  Of all the parents, I understand Jacks the most. They had a good number of years of him being a normal child, and in one second, that changed. But my god, that poor boy.

  Elsie’s brother is clearly just saying what he knows his mother wants to hear. He looks to her every time he answers to make sure he got it “right”. He’s supporting his mother emotionally in the only way he knows how, and while it’s very sweet, it’s ultimately not fair on him.

  I’ve worked with very high needs children for over 30 years, and I think everyone deserves a chance at life… but I DON’T think that a child’s life should be lived with nothing but pain and suffering. Sometimes, a “do not resuscitate” order is the kindest, most loving thing we can do. A person who is existing just to be sedated, operated on, and doped up with pain meds, well that isn’t living. Kidney stones are one of the most painful conditions known to man, and the individuals in this video can’t even express how much pain they’re in. Their bodies are saying it’s time to go. The parents are keeping them alive in an attempt to avoid their own grief. I wouldn’t let one of my pets suffer like this, let alone a child!

  I can’t believe that poor boy was subjected to not only 14 years of misery but then to resuscitation at the end. He should have been allowed to die peacefully.

  I had that conversation with my little man’s team. It is not easy and it’s painful but I had to put him first. His little body was shutting down. That was 20 years ago. I do not regret the decision but it still hurts the same and I miss him so much.

  Holly, Jack, and Elsie's cases are examples of why we need to talk about quality of life and what happens when there is none. When healthcare is just prolonging suffering and the chance of a normal life is nil, then what is even the point of keeping someone alive?

  When my brother had a catastrophic brain injury following a car accident I made the difficult decision to remove him from life support, we always talked about DNR in case something terrible happened to both of us. It was painful to watch him go, but it was the right decision and I don't regret it. Poor Jack and Holly. This is abusive.
