Amusement parks: “Our rules have been written in the blood of experience.”
Carnivals “Gears have to be greased with the blood of the innocent!”

Yeah, this is why when I go to fairs now, I just grab a couple of beers and walk through the livestock exhibits.
Somehow that is still safer.

32:20 Fun Fact: it’s better to wear cotton/other natural fibers like wool when dealing with anything hot/flames because if you use synthetic fibers like nylon or polyester, when it starts on fire it will melt and stick to the person. Natural fiber blends can much more easily be torn off and put out

19:20 I used to be the on-site EMT for a local amusement park that had one of these swinging ship rides. A 9 year old girl somehow got her leg out of the ride and smacked her foot against the platform. She got off easy with just a compound fracture. Another day a kiddy coaster completely derailed. I don't how how that deathtrap of a place is still open.

The rides are the least sketchy thing about these carnivals, the people who work at them are usually on the run from law enforcement, addicted to several substances, are on some kinda list in a database somewhere or a mixture of all 3

Proper amusement parks have to be safe, they're under constant quality inspection standards. Especially when they're placing in such large rides, ones that are meant to be permanent installations, like coasters. It's why deaths or major injuries are incredibly rare at real theme parks.

But fairs? Nowhere to that same standard. You know why it's so cheap to go to one of those? Because the standards are so much lower and they're subject to far fewer regulations. Plus there's also just more inherent risk riding something that's meant to move from place to place, not stay in one spot.

They found out with most of those rides, that were made in Europe btw, is that they were secretly rusting on the INSIDE of the parts and inspections literally couldn't see it. Many of them were taken out of commission permanently.

Statistically they are safe, but a lot less safe than they should be.
