Same thing happened in Falkland Island. After the war, millions of mines kept the people away from some of the beaches on the island. The penguin population grew without human interaction, because the penguins couldn’t set off the mine. So it got turn it into a penguin sanctuary because of the war.

You are beyond an Architect, you are a deeply thoughtful artist. More than ever, the world needs your bridge.

When you said that South Koreans had to shoulder more sacrifice for a future they might never see, it reminded me of a quote from Andor, "I burn my life to make a sunrise I know I'll never see." I don't know if it'll relate directly to the topic of Korean Reunification but my mind immediately went there.

This design is so beautiful it made me tear up. Got emotional when you were describing tension and showing the structure.

My parents came to USA in early 80s when I was 10 years old. Never had an opportunity to go back to Korea in 45 years until last year. Oddly, felt like home when I landed after in Korea. Showing my kids around the my roots gave me all the proud memories. My daughter decided to do her residency in Korea this year and couldn’t be more happy to see her become part of Korea. Building a bridges are nature of human. Hope we will see your bridge someday.

Your story moved me so much, I was born in Seoul and was adopted by Dutch parents.
I recognize a lot what you are talking about and when I got back to Korea it struck me like a brick, I can't speak the language anymore, but I remembered sounds and smell, it made me cry.

once someone told me urban development is a social science. It is not about the construction of the building. It is about the way people use it. Idealists like you can change the world but it takes time.

Because of the East-West German border wall, a similar situation happened in Germany. On both sides of the fortifications there was a buffer "no go" zone, that was spared from development, farming and hunting etc.
Post-reunification (and destruction of the literal wall), the area is now designated a nature reserve.

You should win an award for the bridge design. It's philosophically brilliant.

This is relatable to a lot of Korean-Canadians/Korean-Americans who've now call North America their home; having lived in this part of the world for the majority of my life; going back to South Korea was comforting yet unsettling. I felt connected to both my western life and South Korean, but also felt stuck in this weird purgatory in the middle.
