Someone needs to interview my aunt Lina Gornicki Baron. She is polish and escaped by jumping off the train her and her mother and father. The train was going to Treblinka . They all later made it to Mexico. My aunt was only 4 years old.

Excellent and accurate review of this horrible topic. The only IMPORTANT issue that is missing from this review is the LINK between the place where the trip started and the misery of the trip. The Jews deported from Greece and to a lesser extent from Hungary traveled longer, suffered more, and were more likely to die during the travel than those travelling within Poland. The temperature outside the train made a huge difference too. Thus, as the Jews of Hungary were deported in Summer, a higher proportion of them died as a result of the extreme heat in the box cars than those travelling in Winter. The Germans estimated an average death toll during the trip of 25%. As an average, it was accurate.

Important seldomly narrated subject with intense accounts and some rare footage. Unfortunately most footage does not correlate with the narrative. Some footage even artificially incorporated. The subject matter calls for more thoroughly assembled documentaries to come. Including more technical information of the organisational side of the Reichsbahn.
