Our branch used to meet in a Masonic hall. It would be years before I would recognize the irony of that!

It's much more that you don't know than just what day it was!

Very enjoyable thanks. RFM the wording in D&C 84 "this generation" that JS used is borrowed / also used in Matt 24:34 in the Bible to say the second coming was imminent 2000 years ago as well.

I'm sure that when the waters get troubled, the GAs will have an ocean going liner to pick them up, while everyone else 'stays in the boat'.

If the church can defend the book of Abraham with their Catalyst Theory then the movie makers can defend their story by using the Mountain Meadows Massacre as a catalyst, or inspiration.

I haven't yet watched this whole episode, but I will over the next couple of days so there may be more for me to comment on. Rebecca just mentioned her ancestor who participated in MMM. I can feel for her. My ancestor was at one time Bishop in Parowan. When I attended BYU I took a genealogy class where I learned how to use the tools of the early 1980's. Through that process I learned that particular ancestor had been excommunicated and then later baptized again. Once I left the church, about 15 years later, I decided I needed to learn about MMM. I bought and read Juanita Brooks book. I was very relieved to not find my ancestor mentioned. I even had a bit opposite experience to Rebecca finding out her ancestor was involved when I read some of the material in appendices at the back. In one of the journals she quoted from I found my Bishop ancestor complained about as he wouldn't leave looking into who was involved alone. I never found out why he was excommunicated but I have imagined it was because he apparently wasn't playing along with covering up who committed the massacre.

I agree with RFM … the perfect encapsulation of MMM.

How peaceful were BY"s 50 wives? So much history of horror and deception and it has nothing to do with this movie imo.
