  I'm really surprised to hear people thought Turner was acting like an apologist.  I think he's been incredibly reasonable and careful, the way a historian should be.

  I appreciate J. Turner acknowledging that those who have had the misfortune of being members of the church and experiencing great harm as a result,  impacts how we perceive Joseph; much differently than Turner does. It's important that he hear the immense damage this man has done.  A narcissistic abuser can be rakish, fun, charasmatic, etc. But, that pales in comparison to the abuse. JS was a manipulative, lying, power-hungry man, with little in the way of morals, and claiming the power and voice of God. And that is terrifying.

  I am (as of a few weeks ago) just finding out about all this! I&apos;ve been away from the LDS church for about 10 years and I&apos;m just hearing about all this! I put my life into this church , I changed everything and gave them some of the best years of my life! Never would I have joined if I knew what Joseph was really doing. Thank you Mormon Stories for getting this information out. I feel so fucking stupid for believing all this.<br> I Left church over an Elder&apos;s (it just happened to be a Young) Sunday testimony against me 🙄 long story. Living in physical pain and not giving a second thought about going back to church until my brother past away. One day a couple of weeks ago I thought I&apos;d see what the church was up to. Fairview Texas comes up as the first story. My jaw dropped when I heard what they did with their lawyers on the first meeting with the board. That&apos;s when I found Mormon Stories, Radio Free Mormon, Nemo the Mormon.<br> I&apos;ve always had questions, things didn&apos;t make sense but like most I gave Joseph a pass. Why? Ever time I think why did I believe this it hurts my chest. All the blessings, all the teaching, all the temple work, going to church historic sites... it was all bullshit. <br> What sold on the church was the temple, being sealed to family forever. That is what hurts the most. It was never real. I went through the temple first then I joined Freemasonry and had even more questions, but I still gave Joseph a pass 😔 because I wanted families forever.<br><br>Thank you to everyone at Mormon Stories for your hard work, thank you for getting the truth out to all of us.

Smith.<br>I was a Mormon member for 50 years, but as I started down my own journey of discovery, &nbsp;I was shocked at how I didn&apos;t see any of the betrayal sooner!<br>You Sir, are valuable. <br>Thank you.

  It’s not the place of a historian to take sides. Dr. Turner is a true historian who sticks to the facts as know to him. I appreciate his honesty and professionalism as someone who has been trying to find a biography based on fact and not by someone who has a stake in the church.

  When people ask me “ if you could spend one evening with a historical figure who would that be?” I for years said Joseph Smith…. Now I say Emma !

  The main thought that came to my mind as to why JS resumed working on the Book of Mormon in the middle after losing the 116 pages, is that he didn&apos;t yet know whether they&apos;d resurface. So it makes sense to begin where he left off for 2 reasons: no point redoing all the work he&apos;d done if they were going to show up again. And also it would avoid having people compare the two copies for discrepancies. But once all the rest of it was done and they were still missing, at that point it was clear he just needed to bite the bullet and redo that section.
