  This is what youtube was originally/should be about - educational videos, performed by experts, with no fluff but so much info. When I saw the thumbnail, I thought &quot;how the actual F can he get over a quarter of an hour out of showing us how to coil a rope?&quot;. At the end of the vid, I wanted more!<br>Excellent stuff, subscribed ⛵

  I keep coming back to this video, which is such an excellent example of what youtube can do at its best. An expert explaining to the rest of us why he is right and most of us are wrong in clear, entertaining language and format.

  It&apos;s not how to do it, it&apos;s why it was done, and why this should be done... Explaining the difference between storing 3 strand and double braid, explaining the squaring out of 3 strand that got forgotten on the way.... Great Stuff!

  Fantastic lesson. Keep it up, most modern sailors haven&apos;t a clue about seamanship. Thats why things go wrong!!

  This is one of very few &quot;coiling&quot; instructions that actually describes the difference between the way to do it for 3-strand laid rope (like old fashioned hemp rope or modern mooring lines) and braided lines that have no lay.

  Marvellous video. I have watched so many videos about coiling and storing sailing ropes and this is by far the best. It covers the two main methods, but explains the history and reason for different coiling methods.

  Holy crap! This explains a lot. I learned by seamanship back in the 60&apos;s as a Sea Cadet boatswain. Those were the days of three strand natural fibers like hemp and manila. I could splice and rig with the best of them In those days nylon was the new thing to learn. Fast forward to the new century, I get back into sailing and suddenly the reason those quarter turns showing up on my lines make sense. Thanks Chris, I&apos;ll have to pass this on. Who knew that after 5,000 years or so of sailing there are still new(er) tricks to learn.
