The depression they're referring to is a fictional one that hit Gotham during Bruce's childhood.

I LOVE how you pause the movie without talking over it. LOVE it. Sometimes the banter is not worth it, but better the banter happen over a paused screen than while it's playing.

DC was initially hesitant that Nolan and writer David S Goyer wanted to film a more grounded, hyper-realistic take about Batman. After the success of the first movie, DC/Warner gave Nolan almost free reign on how to film the trilogy.

I think Rachel is proud of him at the end for the things he does as Batman, but she recognizes he is a broken man and that the friend she once knew is not there anymore

I was working as a Projectionist, aged 19, when Batman Begins came out. The reaction of the audiences were something else.

It blew my mind that an origin story could be rewritten with such class. Nolan has been a legend and a hero for me every since.

1:35:46 She is a responsible adult with common sense who, in spite of her deep feelings and overall love for Bruce, understands that Bruce doesn't have the ability to have a normal relationship now that he is the Batman. In turn, Bruce has learned to control his emotions and understands her decision so much so that they can still be very close without the romantic entanglement jeopardizing either of their very important services to Gotham.

When they mentioned "the depression," they weren't talking about the 1930s Great Depression. It was a fictional economic depression that was going on that Bruce's father was trying to fight. And later Ra's reveals that his organization was the one who orchestrated that depression as their first attempt to destroy Gothem.

The Dark Knight is a masterpiece. Heath deserved that reward even though he was gone already.
