I’m so proud that my dad, Alonson Lisk, was a member of the 501st PIR (101st Airborne Div) from 1942. He was active in their operations from D-Day through the end of the war & wounded twice.

Gives me a much better picture of what my father went through as a veteran of WW2 and the 101st Airborne, He was extremely proud of being an Eagle Man and rightfully so, he never talked about his tour upon returning home. God bless him

101st Airborne Division was soo famous that they were one of those units in the Battle of Bulge that refuse to yield, even after being encircled. They were soo dedicated with their mission they were one of those units that became elite members of the US Army and been active since then.

If possible could you do the story of the Merchant Marines?  My father sailed from 1943 until the end of the war and was torpedoed and sunk three times.  The Merchant Marries were vital in winning the war and never got any credit for what they did for the war effort. That and until the 1980's never received any benefits for their efforts. Unfortunately he died before I could think to interview him. RIP Dad.

My cousin was Lt Norman Jeff McFaddin Sr Dog Co 2nd BTN 506th PIR 101st Airborne. He was a Toccoa man and fought from Normandy to The Eagles Nest. I had many conversations with him about his service during WWII.

Ike actually told Stephen Ambrose, his biographer, that Andrew Higgins the builder of all the landing crafts, won the war for the Allies. That is why the National WWII Museum (originally the D Day Museum) is located in New Orleans where the boats were built and tested on Lake Ponchtrain.
