Interesting! I learned to burn out in the center of my stove burning north and south. This was the most efficient for me last year. Ill experiment with you findings this year.

Blowing cold air towards the warm air is the only way because blowing warm air cools it.<br>The faster it blows, the cooler it gets.<br>Fan on the floor, on lowest setting, moves the coldest air in the that area of the house toward the warm area. The cool air rises as it warms and circulates back to fill the low pressure area behind the fan.<br><br>Same principle when warming your vehicle on a frosty day. Keep the fan speed low, unless you have a windshield to defrost.

N Wis and I burn a Woodstock Soapstone Fireview 205. Nice even radiant long lasting heat. Far bedroom stays about 5 degrees lees than the stove room. No fans needed. Something for you to test is a radiant stove verses a heavily shielded convective stove. I think radiant heat is more efficient and causes less cold drafts along the floor.

From Va. <br>Been using a temp. gun for many years, mostly for home electrical checking, diagnostic. Introduced to one at work. Great tool. <br> My wood stove is an Appalachain wood-coal stove but only use wood. Use it as a fireplace insert, unable to give temperatures on anything other than the front. <br> I will definitely try your tip of moving the wood and pay attention to how much wood is used. <br>Thanks for sharing your opinions.

Vermont. Jotul 118. It's designed to burn hottest in the front part of the stove. Better to ensure more complete combustion of gases and vapors. Hot top, short metal pipe going through a vertical stainless steel plate on one side of a firebrick lined fieldstone smoke chamber before a tile lined stone chimney sitting in the middle of the house. Works well enough for me. Burn dry wood, run hot while aflame, throttle down once achieving hot enough stable exhaust temperature.
