I've lived in the same house 48 years and I've changed out my water heater 4 times best I remember. The one I have now is a gas Whirlpool that I bought from Lowes. It's actually been one of the best I've ever had, it's about 7-8 years old. The last one was a White Bradford and I had to change the Thermocouple a couple times during it's life. The pilot light was always going out. When I bought the Whirlpool heater, I had a hard time finding a gas model.

My BradfordWhite defender is 6 years and 3 months old and is leaking water out of the bottom currently. JUNK IN MY BOOK!

I have a 182L 3000W 240V GSW electric tank branded as a Moffat. Parts are readily available from RONA and Canadian Tire. I can buy replacement elements and thermostats right on the retail floor. A complete kit with both the top and bottom anode elements plus two new thermostats costs about $50CAD. The socket to uncrew the anodes costs about $20 and the anodes are very easy to get at.

Their anode rods design sucks big time by sharing the hot water outlet with the anode. They come overly tight from the factory and to remove them you risk damaging your hot water outlet. It's a headache
