  I like how you went through all that effort of cutting copyright free music on lacquer masters just so we can enjoy the full audio fidelity of the sound through the YouTube compression and my iPhone 11 Pro speakers

  Some years ago, I was asked if I knew anyone who could transfer 78rpm records to cassette tapes by a local record shop owner. I said that I could. It turned out that they were 78rpm lacquer cuts that belonged to a member of the local church. They were recordings of the 1953 nativity play in which his daughter appeared. The equipment I used was a DUAL turntable fitted with a STANTON 881S cartridge and an AIWA ADWX909 three head cassette deck . The sound quality was amazing.

  I was fortunate to have the opportunity to listen to a lacquer master my friend recorded at a local audio club meeting a few years ago. &nbsp;He also played different stampings that used different formulations of vinyl. &nbsp;The spectrum of the surface noise was different for each formulation.

  Awesome video man! I love the intersection of art and science, it&apos;s where you find all the most interesting stuff. Even though it&apos;s through the YT audio processing it was still cool to hear the clean crisp sound of the laquer. I look forward to more of your videos.

  Years ago working at a “certain” company they had developed a way of recording on a polyceramic disc which was practically indestructible and looked like an old floppy disc but was deemed that the market adoption would take too long and so was scrapped…

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p18SspdBx_4&amp;t=70">1:10</a> “Barely any surface noise” and no clicks/pops – this is only true if the lacquer is brand new and has never been played. Lacquer is softer than vinyl and deteriorates much faster. Unless you store them in a humidity-controlled room they don’t age well either. You play a lacquer record a dozen times and you will hear much more surface noise, clicks and pops than you hear from a vinyl record.

  When I was young, back in the 70s, I used to buy a lot of direct-to-disk records that used no tape master. Lathe operators would cut the lacquer masters as the musicians played an entire side of the record. Groove spacing was made wider to accommodate the on-the-fly cutting, so the records were only 15-20 min per side, but the audio clarity was amazing.

  Don&apos;t forget direct-to-disc recordings from the later 1970s which did not utilize tape at all. &nbsp;There were also half-speed-mastered versions of well-known albums licensed to Mobility Fidelity Sound Lab, pressed on Japanese vinyl.
