Looking out over the lake Tawas Point was my late wife's favorite place on earth. She's still there.

I live in Detroit. My parents live in Oscoda. I love the drive up 23 when I go visit them. Coming from the madness of the city thats when I relax when i hit 23. Its so calm and peaceful.

I used to be in the Ohio Air National Guard and in 1974, we did our annual 2 week summer camp exercise at Alpena Air Force Station. I had never been to that part of Michigan before, but was so impressed with the cool clear evenings on Lake Huron, that when we got back, I took a week off from work and went right back up there, along your very same route. I continued on to Mackinac Island and then down the western side of Lake Michigan before heading back home. It was delightful.

Thank you so much for this one. It hits me deeply at the right moment. 4 generations of summers in our family cottage in Tawas. Sunrises, sand, rock hunting, ice-cream from Marians and walking the dock, point, lighthouse, sailing, the fising and all the menenories jest keep flooding back. 1945-2019.

Recommend driving it in the Fall, specifically early October. The colors and atmosphere is perfect.

I live E of Cheboygan…so many changes in the past 30 years. Thank God US 23 is still a two lane hwy! TY!
